Infect Truth!

A Note From Pastor Linda

Christianity did not begin with a confession. It began with an invitation into friendship, into creating a new community, into forming relationships based on love and service.
~Diana Butler Bass

Dear ChURch Family,

Picture a man with a tacky, grey rat-suit, ears, fur, tail. This rat-suited man is writhing on a public sidewalk, pretending he is gasping for breath. Next to this rat-man is a hand-lettered placard declaring: "Cyanide is in cigarette smoke- the same as it is in rat poison."

As the Public Service Announcement comes to an end, the tagline that underscores this image is: "Knowledge is contagious... Infect truth!"

Infect: to share, to be infectious. Are you an "infectious follower of Jesus"? Do you infect truth? Sharing is a trait that is hugely human. We share good things. We share bad things. No matter how private or personal, there are times when we all feel compelled to share some things:
  • If you liked or disliked the newest StarBucks drink- Tie-Dye Frappuccino (ask Pastor Jen's daughter, Faora, about this!)
  • If you liked or disliked the latest AGT (America's Got Talent) episode and agreed or disagreed with the judges' Golden Buzzer.

While some sharing is unintentional, like sharing a summer cold or the flu, you share information about yourself, whether you like it or not, or whether you want to or not:
  • The barista, who may or may not remember your name, knows your order when you approach the counter.
  • The local delivery driver knows what kind of packages you get, and from where.

The more intentional sharing we do is with those whom we feel more connected:
  • We share hopes and dreams with our partners.
  • We share history with our siblings- the good, the bad and the ugly!

What about sharing the GOSPEL? Do you agree with me that our world is in desperate need of more GOOD NEWS? The apostle Paul shared the GOOD NEWS with anyone who would listen. He crossed social, and cultural and economic divides. Paul had no less than a full blown case of crazy love for Jesus. He said:
Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people... From 1 Corinthians 9

The GOOD NEWS of Jesus was too good not to share... it still is!! The WORLD (that God so loves) needs to hear what we have... Be contagious. Be the chURch. Be ALIVE for Jesus!!

Be the chURch!

 ~Pastor Linda

Speaking of sharing some news- a financial update: We are experiencing a Summer shortfall at Hosanna. While this is typical, this year we experienced a string of weeks in Spring with much less than anticipated giving and we have not been able to catch up. From the CPA Bylaws:

2.2 Cash Flow Borrowing: To eliminate the need for a bank funded line-
of-credit to cover church's operating fund short-term cash shortfalls,
money may be temporarily transferred from the Capital Projects Account
to the Operating Account for short-term cash flow needs during the
summer months of June, July and August each year.

2.2.4 All Short-Term Cash Flow transfers must be repaid in full to the Capital Projects fund no later than December 31st of the year the funds are borrowed.

$8000 was transferred upon approval of the Church Council as a short-term cash flow transfer. If you have discovered that you are behind in your planned giving or can give an additional gift, a gift of any size would help.

Prayer Requests

At Hosanna, a person remains on the prayer chain for two weeks. However, in cases of long-term illness, hospice, or by request, the members of the prayer chain will pray for a person and/or situation in need, as long as requested.
Keep an eye out for our new "Prayer Page" on our website for online prayer requests!

Mission Jamaica
Date: February 1-8, 2020

Interested in meeting and serving our Neighbors in Jamaica?
Get involved with Hosanna coming this Winter, 2020. A Mission Jamaica trip combines a service project, with time for reflection and spiritual rest. It allows a person to experience an international mission field that is close to home, yet far enough away to immerse yourself in another culture for a week. Over 30 years of accompanying our Jamaican neighbors, has led to over 35 Evangelical Lutheran Churches in America congregations and several colleges from Minnesota as well as North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina and Illinois in partnership with St. Andrew's in Mahtomedi, MN to get involved to make a difference for this community.

Come and see...get connected with your global neighbors! Mission Jamaica has provided a way for folk to love and serve our neighbors just as Jesus taught. Jesus said, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Mark 12:30-31

This is an unforgettable opportunity for any age. Registration is open now, space is limited so SIGN UP TODAY! Travel as a family, individual, couple, or small group. This LIVE. LOVE. SERVE opportunity is a perfect way to live into Hosanna's mission! More details will be made available on our website.
