Through workshops and networking, this FREE event brings aspiring, beginning farmers, experienced farmers and landowners working toward farm succession in a meaningful way to steward the next generation of farmers.
The next generation summit includes two workshops aimed at helping farmland owners and beginning or aspiring farmers  develop a plan to fulfill their farm visions. Farmland owners will work on setting goals that can help them move toward a farmland legacy reflecting their values.

Aspiring and beginning farmers will establish goals and action items to help start their farming business. They will leave with the tools to focus their goals and make connections that will help them in accessing land and building their farming business.
Land access shared learning call
Tuesday, Aug. 6 | noon

We have created a shared learning call for beginning farmers who are in years 6-10 of their operation. This call is designed to allow farmers to share their experience and foster a peer-to-peer learning environment.

Farmers in this stage have identified needing support with land access as one of their top barriers. Often they look to lease or purchase farmland near their existing farm to scale up. Building connections with neighbors and the local community can be an effective way of identifying and securing farmland.

Donna Warhover of Mt. Vernon and Aaron White of Carlisle have volunteered to start this conversation. They will share the tips and tricks that they have found to work in acquiring the land they needed. This conversation cannot happen without you. Join us at noon on August 6 to join this conversation around land access.

You can join by computer or phone

The Beginning Farmer Tax Credit Program was enacted by the Iowa legislature during the 2006 legislative session as an incentive to keep land in production agriculture, by allowing agricultural asset owners to earn tax credit for leasing their land to beginning farmers. The program includes tax credit for the leasing of agricultural land, depreciable machinery or equipment and buildings. Deadline for 2019 applications is August 1, 2019.
