New Leaders Virtual Academy
August 13, 15, 20, 22, 27
(1-2:30 p.m. Eastern Time)

The U.S. Department of Education's Y4Y Technical Assistance team will join with experienced program directors and site coordinators to present a five-part webinar series for new program directors and site leaders. Participants will learn about a logical process for developing high-quality programs using an implementation planning tool, and all participants will receive the tool. This academy offers you peer support to help you achieve your goals and succeed! More information about the series and how to register will be coming soon. 

Creative Program Ideas
  • August 1: 75th anniversary of Anne Frank's final diary entry. How did one young woman impact future generations? Find free learning materials and an online game at the Anne Frank House website.
  • August 12: International Youth Day. The 2019 theme is "transforming education." Invite a discussion of how youth might become active champions of inclusive and accessible education.
  • August 16: National Tell a Joke Day. Have some summer fun with this one!
  • August 17: National Honeybee Awareness Day. Don't let honeybees become a thing of the past!  Go to the Honeybee Conservancy website and scroll down the page for lesson ideas.

Help for Preparing New Leaders
As mentioned in the Save the Date above, this year Y4Y has a new, free learning event designed to help you roll out the welcome mat and get new 21st CCLC leaders in your state off on the right foot! The New Leaders Virtual Academy is a three-week webinar series of five sessions that will introduce the basics for developing a high-quality 21st CCLC program. Sessions will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m Eastern Time. August 13, 15, 20, 22 and 27 so participants have support as they head into their first school/program year.
 
Tell your new grantees, program directors and site leaders about this opportunity and encourage them to register. They'll join a collaborative group that interacts with experienced program and site leaders, with guidance from the U.S. Department of Education's Y4Y Technical Assistance team.  Watch for registration and other information coming soon.
