"And Lead Us Not into Temptation..."

We know the word, we pray the prayer, but what do we really know about temptation? In this class we will study the temptation of Jesus, what scripture has to say about temptation, and how we can deal with temptation in our own lives through the strength of the Holy Spirit.  


The Academy 
The Academy consists of 12 courses in which participants will grow in knowledge of God's Word, learn how to use it when engaging with others, and discover how to evangelize effectively. Each course of The Academy is designed to equip believers as missionaries with scripture-based doctrine, that they may bring a solid, theological defense of faith with confidence. Participants can join classes at any time, and in no particular order, at no cost to them.  Childcare is available with a reservation.

Life Group Events
Would you love a chance to get to know your church friends outside of church? Are you looking for a way to reach out to someone without a church home? Life Groups provide you with a way to do both! Each month our Life Groups will have a social event that you are invited to attend and encouraged to bring a friend along! These are open to everyone throughout the year- jump in any time you can!  Click Here to Sign-up for all Life Group Events.
 
Life Experienced:  We will meet at the Dallas Arboretum at 10 AM on Thursday, October 17th for the Pumpkin Festival (senior discount day). After the tour, we will meet at a nearby restaurant for lunch. 

Middlers:  Join us on Saturday, October 5th at the Runway Theater in Grapevine to see the Neil Simon's play, Proposals. We'll meet at Lucy's restaurant in Grapevine for dinner at 6 PM.  You can purchase your tickets online at the Runway Theater.  The theater is a small intimate theater so we suggest getting your tickets soon.  We will need to make reservations at Lucy' so please sign up today.
 
TweenersWe will head to the Dallas Arboretum on Saturday, October 26th, at 10 AM.  Bring a sack lunch.

Young Families: Join our family fun night at the Coulson home (404 Sioux St., Keller). We will have a costume party and potluck on Saturday, October 26th, at 5:30 PM. 

Young Couples & New Parents : Join us at Hall's Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze (3420 Hall Johnson Rd., Colleyville) on Sunday, October 20th, at 3:30 PM.  Cost is $5 per person (cash only). Bring your little one in costume!

Mature Singles:  Lunch October 13th after the late service at Rock Fish in Southlake.

Small Groups
Small Groups meet bi-monthly to grow in faith and build lasting friendships. Each group has the opportunity to study how Scripture informs our daily lives and how we, as new creations in Christ, can live in the promises received through baptism. Participants grow in friendship as they learn to love, support, and encourage one another on this journey together into a deeper life in Christ.   

Griefshare
Griefshare is designed to help those grieving the death of a loved one find comfort from God's Word. This 13 week course meets on Tuesday nights at 7 PM at the church. Sessions are "self-contained" so you can attend at any time. You can learn more about the class at www.grieshare.org.  
 
LIFT Snack & Sweet Social
LIFT (Ladies in Faith Together) will be hosting a Snack & Sweet Social on Sunday, September 29th, from 2-4 PM.  We will have a short program and enjoy snacks and sweets as we visit and get to know each other better.  Last names ending in A-M please bring an appetizer and last names N-Z bring a sweet. Please bring newborn size diapers to be donated to Mid-Cities Pregnancy Center. Location:  Home of Melinda Mitford, 3039 Old Mill Run, Grapevine.
 
"Aging Backwards" Exercise Class
  Meets at the church every Tuesday and Friday morning at 9:30 AM.  Includes low intensity, gentle stretching, and a short devotion and prayer together.  For both men and women.  Contact Barbara Walker to attend the Tuesday Class (817-996-1187), and Lori Vinz to attend the Friday Class (817-917-9037). If you would like to start another class at a different time, the videos are available through the church office.

Golf Fellowship
The Fellowship Golf group meets on Thursdays at Bear Creek Golf Club.  Tee time between 9-10 AM.  Hope you can join us. Everyone is welcome!  For more information, contact  Carl Young 
Union Gospel Mission Donations
We are collecting new/gently used purses for the ladies at UGM. We would like to fill the purses with lotions, shampoo, soap, feminine products, finger nail polish, costume jewelry, snacks, socks, and tissues.  We would like to include ministry materials like daily devotional books, music, book markers, writing pads, pens, pencils.  The purses and ministry materials can be "slightly used" but the toiletries need to be new.  Items due October 31st and can be placed in box in the family life center. 
 
Southlake Oktoberfest
Grab your lederhosen and polka shoes, we're going to be missionaries at Southlake's Oktoberfest! October 4-6 we will have a booth where we can meet people in the community, share the love of Jesus, and give out mementos of God's grace-filled Word. Sign up for your chance to be a missionary in Southlake! Yodeling is not required, but certainly not discouraged.
 
FriendSpeak 
We have begun a wonderful new outreach ministry here at Living Word.  We need volunteers to engage in one-to-one English conversation with international friends on Friday mornings from 10:00 to 11:00.  Training is provided.  This is a fun and easy; a great way to make a new friend.  Contact Steve for more information.

Everyone His Witness Class
Pastor Malinak will lead a workshop on Saturday, October 19th, from 9-4 PM at the church. You will learn how to naturally share the Good News of Jesus with the people in your everyday life. Learn how to listen, ask non-accusatory questions, and share the Gospel with honesty. Lunch & materials provided.  Click Here to Sign-Up

"Paws and Pals" 
LWLC Pet Therapy Ministry
If you have a well-behaved, friendly pet that's good around strangers, consider joining "Paws and Pals" our LWLC Pet Therapy Ministry. Next visit to Woodridge Nursing Home is Saturday,  Oct 12 at 1:30. Contact Steve to request more information, or to sign up. 

Handmade With Love Ministry
Join the team to make handmade caps, socks and blankets for new born babies.
Once a month, the items are collected and donated to our mission partner, Mid-Cities Pregnancy Center. Contact Steve for more information. 
 
LWLC Sewing Group
We meet the second Saturday of every month from 10-2 PM at the church. Join us as we quilt for Lutheran World Relief. There are various jobs you can assist with. For more info., Click Here.

Union Gospel Mission
Serving Dinners
If you would like to help volunteer to serve dinners at the Union Gospel Mission Homeless Shelter, (1321 East Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth), please join us the 2nd Thursday of every month from  4-7 PM. This is a good event to invite your unchurched neighbors and friends to participate in. For more information, 
 
Congregational Mission Trips
"You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
LWLC is sending you, because you are the missionaries sharing the gospel:
  • Dove Elementary Witness to kids 3rd-5th grade at Dove Elementary Kid's Beach Club Thursdays 2:45-4:05pm through games, Bible stories, and snack time. Anyone who cannot physically volunteer, being a prayer partner is a great way to be involved. Resumes in the fall.  Click Here
  • ChicagoBe a witness, partnering with "My Father's Business" as we build relationships while playing basketball, sharing a meal and conversation, and sharing the gospel with inner-city youth. Trip dates: TBD. Cost $75.  Click Here
  • New MexicoWitness to a nation within our nation in Navajo, NM. Working with a Missouri Synod Church, we will build relationships with the Navajo people as they teach us to make fry bread and beaded jewelry and we teach them about Jesus and His love. Trip dates: Oct. 3-7. Cost $100  Click Here

Mission Partner News  
The Gatehouse is a supportive living community for women - whether single or with children - leaving a crisis, such as abuse, poverty, homelessness, tragic divorce or other reasons.  The Gatehouse community has 96 apartments where members can stay up to 2½ years, providing a safe refuge and environment for women and children in crisis to walk the path toward permanent change.  Keep this important ministry in your prayers.   

Youth PH4U Cluster Group
S aturday, October 12th
Junior High and Senior High Youth are invited to join the Pregnancy Help 4 U (PH4U) Cluster group. We meet at PH4U once a month to assist in decorating sonogram frames, organizing their baby supplies or assisting with work projects at the center. On Saturday, October 12th, please bring a friend and join us as we assist the center with any current needs, lunch at Chick-Fil-A, then to  Hobby Lobby in Southlake to purchase supplies for the next time we decorate sonogram frames. You can meet at LWLC parking lot at 9:30 AM if you'd like to ride in Pat Cain's car; or meet at Pregnancy Help 4 U, 5857 Park Vista Circle; Keller, TX at 10 AM. Parents, please pickup at 1pm at Hobby Lobby ( 2115 W. Youth/College Ski Trip
The Jr/Sr. high and college students are invited to our ski trip to Angel Fire, NM December 31st-January 4th. Cost is $400 and covers room/board, travel, equipment and lift tickets. Sign up by November 1st.

College Connections Ministry
Each Sunday school class will adopt a college youth and send letters/care packages several times a year to help keep them connected to the church.  To participate, send an email to  lwlc@lwlc.com   with your student's  current address  and a photo of your child.
   
Sunday Youth Nights
The Sunday youth night for the Jr. & Sr. High Youth resume on Sunday, October 6th.  Jr. high meets from 5:20-6:50 PM and Sr. High from 
7-8:30 PM. Bring a friend!
