We are a "B" for the 2018-2019 school year!

This past week the Florida Department of Education released the annual school letter grades and I am very proud to share that Cypress Creek earned a solid "B" while improving 20 points under the FLDOE scoring system from the prior year. This makes it four straight years of steady point gains which is a major success story reflecting upon our entire school community. I am so proud of our students and their teachers and am very grateful for all the support from our families, volunteers, and partners in education. Congratulations Bears ... well done!!!

This second summer break issue has several important event reminders in it and key dates. If you are student or have a student attending CCHS, please take special note of the summer reading assignments. The summer break is now past its mid-point, so I encourage any of our students that have yet to get started to please do so very soon. If you look closely at this summer's assignments, there are some terrific book selections on all the lists.

Please continue to drive safely this summer and remain mindful of the medical dangers associated with sun exposure and car heating with locked doors & windows. Otherwise, enjoy your July and remember . . . WE ARE THE BEAR FAMILY!

Have a good week.

Athletics Paperwork
The Sports Packet for 2019-20 seasons will be available from the front office or the Athletic Training office in the gym 03-105J. You may wish to print this document from home and take it to your private physician: http://bit.ly/bearpaperwork

* Every student-athlete will need to complete new paperwork for the academic 2019-2020 school year.

Paperwork can be turned into the main office throughout the summer and the staff will place it into Coach Panas-Schuster's mailbox. Processing takes place throughout the summer. Recheck for necessary information and proper signatures in pen as the student-athlete will not be allowed to participate in any interscholastic activities until the documentation is completed correctly.

* Fall sports start dates begin July 29th.

Questions regarding open gym opportunities and tryout information can be obtained by contacting the head coach for the sport. Or using the REMIND app, you can join the sport group and receive information - https://tinyurl.com/2019-20-remind

Class of 2020

Another Opportunity Scholarship deadline is coming up at the end of this month  - opportunity.collegeboard.org

Vital Signs

In the block just above we remind our incoming Class of 2020 seniors to take advantage of the "Opportunity Scholarships." And once the school year gets underway, you will see additional reminders tied to FAFSA and other financial aid options. However, this summer the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has been gradually releasing their findings with respect to the economics tied to a college education. Below are some of their findings.

In the chart above, the Fed plots the average "sticker price" and "net price" for a bachelor's degree over time. The average sticker price increased from about $5,000 per year in the 1970s to around $18,000 today. However, net prices are much lower due to financial aid, and have tended to increase a bit more slowly than sticker prices. On average, the net price of college has increased from around $2,300 in the 1970s to about $8,000 today. Thus, if a student completed a bachelor's degree in four years, he or she could expect to pay an average of roughly $32,000 out of pocket (national averages). "The Cost of College Continues to Climb" (New York Fed, June 3, 2019)
