Rainwater Harvesting and Xeriscape Rebates
|
|
At their May 21st meeting, the City Council approved rain barrel and xeriscape rebate programs for persons that are on the Leon Valley water system. The programs are designed to further our goal of environmental sustainability and promote conservation of our most precious resource - our water supply! Our water customers can now receive either a $40 or $100 rebate, if they meet the program criteria.
The Way It Works:
Both Programs:
- Applications are downloaded from the City's website or picked up at City Hall - we will also mail/email if requested.
- Completed applications, along with copies of receipts for the purchase of either the barrels or the xeriscaping materials, are either mailed, emailed ([email protected]) or brought to City Hall.
Rainbarrels:
- Applicant purchases a rain barrel from their preferred vendor and then installs at the home.
- Applicant contacts the Public Works Department at (210) 684-1391 x 224 to request an inspection.
- At the inspection, Water Utility Crew members will assure that there are no cross connections to the City's water system and that the barrel is appropriately connected and set up, to include bug proofing.
- Only one rain barrel rebate will be given per household.
- Rebate will be applied to the next water billing cycle, after a satisfactory inspection is performed.
Xeriscaping:
- Applicant takes "before" pictures of a 200 square foot area of grass intended to be replaced with xeriscaping.
- Applicant purchases and installs xeriscape plants and/or hardscape in the 200 square foot area.
- The xeriscape area may be in any part of the yard, but it must replace grass.
- Applicant contacts Public Works at (210) 684-1391 x 224 to schedule an inspection.
- A member of the Water Utility Crew will perform the inspection and check the materials/supplies receipts and take "after" pictures of the xeriscape area.
- Only two xeriscape planting rebates will be given per household.
- Rebates will be applied to the next water billing cycle, after a satisfactory inspection is performed.
Note: For all rebate programs offered by the City, rebates will not be applied to the account, unless the account is current.
