An Evening with Michelle Alexander

Thursday, Sept. 26, 4:30 p.m., McConomy Auditorium, Cohon Center

In a moderated question and answer discussion, civil rights lawyer, advocate and author of "The New Jim Crow," Michelle Alexander, will lead conversations on the state of race relations in America and injustices found within our legal system.
 
Alexander is a legal scholar, social justice advocate, New York Times columnist and visiting professor at Union Theological Seminary. Her work explores the myths surrounding our criminal justice system from a racial and ethical standpoint, and offers solutions to problems stemming from these concerns.

A reception will immediately follow the lecture.

The event part of CMU's University Lecture Series and is free and open to the public.

Carnegie Melon will host Harvard Law School for an information session for students interested in applying to their JD program.

In addition, Harvard Law school does online information sessions as well if students can't attend the in-person event.  This can be scheduled here.

Mock Trial 2019-20

As a member, you will prepare a case theory with your teammates throughout the year, and argue for both prosecution and defense as an attorney or witness in tournaments with schools from around the country. The Emerald Amicus Call for Submissions
 Submission deadline for the Fall 2020 Edition: December 15, 2019
The Emerald
Amicus seeks submission of original analysis of Constitutional issues.  Submissions are open to any undergraduate student from a two- or four-year institu tion. 
All submissions must address Constitutional issues arising from or related to cases under consideration by the Supreme Court at the time of submission.  "Under consideration" means submitted for review, accepted for review, or denied review within the previous six months.  Submissions may approach issues from a legal, historical, economic, or other perspective.
All submissions must be between eight and twelve single-spaced pages, formatted in the manner of a law-review article (using a table of contents and appropriate headings and sub-headings), and employ proper Bluebook citations. A formatting template is available upon request.
