August 2019 eNews from CAP/Corbett
From our Executive Director
Greetings! What a wonderful summer it has been. Lots of sunshine and warm weather creates a great environment for baseball games, picnics and more. We are so thankful for the families, staff and board that came out to enjoy the Red Wings game in July, and so appreciative of Red Wings Manager, Will Rumbold, as well as Jesse Lucas and WROC for sponsorship.

As the summer winds down, we are cognizant of the many children waiting in care preparing to enter school. This is a transition time for them as they enter yet another school year in the system. Reflecting on this, I am prompted to think further down the road about our oldest youth who may be leaving the education system and foster care after age 18.
With the development of a new program, CAP is working diligently to provide those youth an option for a family. In July, Program Manager Veronica Black and I attended the national conference held by NACAC (North American Council on Adoptable Children). I spent a good deal of time learning about other national programs for youth aging out of care and connecting them to families for support.

As we unroll our new service, we will be looking at the general community and Faith community for volunteers interested in providing a support network to help a youth have a brighter future. If you or someone you know would be willing to be a support, mentor, or part-time parent to our older youth, please contact me and help us help the next generation to be successful independent adults!

Thank you,
Lauri McKnight

Re-"CAP" of CAP DAY with the Red Wings
A wonderful day was had at CAP Day at the Red Wings on Sunday afternoon, July 28. Thanks to many generous donations, we were able to auction off packages of "A Taste of Village Gate," family admission passes to family-friendly venues along with stuffed animals, a Get Fit package, signed sports photos, a "Day at the Beach" and more . A huge thanks to all the bidders and to the Red Wings for helping to make this happen, and for auctioning off special "A Christmas in July" game-worn caps. And so grateful to the CAP staff and board who supported these efforts. Check out our awesome new CAP tee-shirts by Guerrilla Tees in Victor. You can also purchase your own!
