Chika Yagazie Chukwumerije, the winner of the 2016 Education UK Social Impact Alumni Award, is a three-time Olympian who has brought Taekwondo to underprivileged students. His work with his Sports Foundation, the Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation (CCSF), uses sport as a tool to engage underprivileged youths in Nigeria.                                                                                                         In 2015, a total of approximately 960 young people have directly benefited from CCSF activities. Parents and guardians of the young people have noted their improved behaviour and confidence levels and a reduction of tension at home.                                                                                                 Chika’s studies at the University of Liverpool provided him with the skills and knowledge of how to use sport to bring value to the community.

Nasir Yammama is a Creative Technologist and Entrepreneur . He’s the founder of Verdant AgriTech Ltd., an an Agri-Tech value chain company that offers innovative solutions to farmers and other stakeholders for improved food production using novel technologies. He is Interested in technology, design, enterprise, renewable energies, and agriculture. This year Nasir was selected to receive the prestigious Queen’s Young Leaders Award. In 2014, as a winner of the Enterprise Challenge competition, he was mentored by Sir Richard Branson, renowned entrepreneur and chairman of Virgin Group.

 

 

Sophie Fenner has been working in UK Higher Education for the past three years and currently is the Postgraduate Student Recruitment Officer for WMG at the University of Warwick. WMG is an academic department that offers programmes covering management, technology and innovation. Sophie will share with you an introduction to Innovation and Entrepreneurship and explain the ways it is taught in the UK’

 

Lagos:

Gbolahan Fagbure is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Supermart.ng, Nigeria's leading online supermarket. Prior to this, he was Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Jumia – another leading online retailer, and Africa’s first winner of ‘Best New Retail Launch’ at the World Retail Awards in 2013. His debut book - Working on a Dream: Lessons in Life and Business is due to be released in February 2017.                                                                                                                                                           In 2010, Gbolahan established a monthly speaker series, providing opportunities for CEOs to share their experiences with young professionals. He has worked at KPMG, Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse and is an Associate Fellow of the Nigeria Leadership Initiative.                                         Gbolahan says his education at the University of Reading played a significant role in developing his ability to analyse complex problems and established a solid foundation for his entrepreneurial ventures.

Osato Aghatise is co-founder and CEO of ttysoon.com, Nigeria’s pioneer retail web-to-print business. Founded in 2014, ttysoon.com has grown from an idea into a profitable business.                         Osato’s business idea has opened up the sector to local and foreign investors who are now actively investing in the sector. Osato is passionate about developing Nigeria’s business landscape and routinely contributes to the discourse in many ways, such as participating in panel discussions on sustaining disruptive innovation on CNBC Africa, alongside other tech pioneers like Uber and Iroko TV.

Keturah Ovio-Onoweya, a trained Software Engineer whose career began at BuzzElement; a South East Asian tech company birthed two (2) companies within one year, both dedicated to Sustaining the African Art and Creative Industries.                                                                                                  Qeturah.com focused on becoming the number 1 online marketplace to discover quality Made in Nigeria (and in the future, Africa) brands at competitive prices and Usanii (myusanii.com) an online resource to discover, collect, and learn about unique African Artists and their works, from the continent. Keturah, a Tony Elemelu Foundation Entrepreneur also won the first prize of the 2016 Enterprise Challenge Competition organized by the British Council in partnership with Virgin Atlantic and Samsung and was personally mentored by Sir Richard Branson.

Sophia Ike-Onu, a trained Architect with a Master’s degree in International Architectural Regeneration and Development, has a passion for developing sustainable businesses in Africa with provision of solutions to everyday problems at the bedrock of it all.  In 2014, she launched The5kShop.com an online retail store which sells quality fashion all under the price cap of 5000 naira ($12). The company has launched an indigenous high street brand called T5S which designs, produces and sells chic fashion and accessories made in Nigeria. Sophia Ike-Onu has gone ahead to clinch the first prize of the 2016 Enterprise Challenge organized by the British Council in partnership with Virgin Atlantic  and Samsung and has been personally mentored by Richard Branson. In 2015, She was also profiled as one of SME 100’s Young Entrepreneurs Under 25 Making Socioeconomic Impact In Nigeria.
