The Calvary Connection
Volunteer Spotlight: DC NOW
The DC chapter of the National Organization of Women (DC NOW) (their Communications Director, Vice President, and President are pictured on the left) has been volunteering with Calvary for just over a year and we couldn't be more thankful for the partnership! The volunteer group organizes birthday parties three times a year for the women at Calvary by planning a party (including games and gifts) and decorating Calvary's program room for a festive celebration. DC NOW has also jumped in to support Calvary in other capacities: the most recent being their involvement with fundraising for Giving Tuesday. By reaching out to their friends, families and networks, the team helped Calvary exceed our Giving Tuesday goal of raising $10,600. We are so thankful for a partner that invests in our programs both financially and with their time and are so excited to spotlight DC NOW this month. Read more about the group here
Seeking Items From Our Holiday Wish List
As the holidays approach, we wanted to let you know that we have released our Holiday Wish List. Items will be given to women who are currently staying in our housing programs as they work to build stronger futures for themselves and their families. We strive to make sure each woman coming on site is greeted with a welcome bag including clean linens, a new pair of pajamas and full-sized toiletries.
  • If you would like to collect or shop for items, our printable Holiday Wish List includes all of our current needs.
  • To access our Amazon wishlist to purchase and send items directly to us, please click here(Please be sure to include your name and contact information int the "gift message" of your Amazon order.)
  • If you prefer to make a financial donation to be used where it is needed most, you can support the women at Calvary here
We hope you will consider including Calvary in your holiday giving, where your gift will empower women as they move into independence.
We're Still Looking for Volunteers Over The Holidays!
We're still looking to fill the following overnight shifts:   Dec. 23rd, Dec. 26th, Dec. 27th, Dec. 28th
If you have already taken a shift over the holidays, but are available for a second shift, please consider joining for another evening. With so many of our volunteers traveling, we could use the extra support from those of us still in town!
Thanks for Giving Tuesday!
148 supporters (including many volunteers) donated to Calvary on #GivingTuesday, November 28th. Together they raised over $10,600, enough to provide two months of meals for the women at Calvary.

Thank you for all your support on #GivingTuesday, and for making a difference to women experiencing homelessness in DC this holiday season.
Hogan Lovells' Annual Gift of Thanksgiving Baskets
A huge thank you to to Hogan Lovells for donating over 150 Thanksgiving boxes in November! The boxes were filled with everything needed to create a Thanksgiving feast and were given out to clients to enjoy for their Thanksgiving meals. They were filled with canned goods, paper goods, juice, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and mac and cheese.
Celebrating The Holiday Season
We're ringing in the holiday season at Calvary with two upcoming concerts! Whitney Parnell is now the CEO of  Service Never Sleeps, but years ago she worked nights and weekends as one of Calvary's most beloved Program Managers. She still comes back twice a year to share her amazing  voice with the women at Calvary. This weekend will be her 3rd Annual Holiday concert. For each concert, we transform the basement into a cozy, candle lit coffee house so that when Whitney and her accompanist Emily Lawyer start working their musical magic, we feel truly transported.

Holly Santillo and the acapella group   Canto Di Speranza are back by popular demand later this month for a Winter Solstice concert on December 21st. Like Whitney, it is an evening of amazing talent, but it differs in that instead of one beautiful voice there are eight, and the music has a decidedly international scope. Thanks to both of these groups for helping us keep Calvary cozy and festive during the holiday season.
