Report on Colorado Grand Lodge
From: Ed Simmons <
[email protected]>
Date: Mon, Jan 30, 2017 at 2:38 PM
Subject: Colorado
To: Jim Hensley
I enjoyed Colorado Grand Lodge. They did make sure Jane and I got to the Grand Master's Banquet. My son was able to accompany me on Friday. I saw several brothers I knew from my Eastern Star visits and met new ones.
I was asked to say a few words and extended your greetings to MWGM Robert Elsloo. At your suggestion I did speak about our sesquicentennial and your theme of character. Your thoughts on character were well received.
The Grand Lecturers report was interesting: "There are many lodges that are excellent in their work and are stellar examples of a profound respect for our rituals and a deep abiding love for the craft. Several lodges have lost their way. They either care not for any standard of excellence or they are so distressed that the burden for carrying on their work is overshadowed by survival. This crisis mode erodes any sense of striving for excellence. Decades have gone by without holding many of the constituent lodges to a standard of sufficient proficiency in their work. Some of the lodges are like feral cats that have been left alone too long and resent any oversight by a District lecturer or a Grand Lodge officer." He stated that several lodges were in the process of merging or had surrendered their charter.
Thank you for the privilege of representing you. I think I told you that Bob and I were Grand Chaplains together in 2008 and he had been my host at that grand session when I went with Dick Kaiser.
Fraternally,
Ed

Ionic Lodge #82 Degree on Feb. 4
practice, Practice, PRACTICE! That's the banter that I forced into the kids when I was teaching the archery side of Hunter Ed. So, I wanted to remind everyone that Ionic # 82 will be having a practice Tuesday evening (if everyone can assemble between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m it would be great) for the upcoming degree to be held on Saturday February 4th. Breakfast of link sausage, eggs and huckleberry pancakes will be served at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. We will need to fill some of the other chairs with the guys who show up. If you can't make it to the practice please come out and support our newly obligated Master Mason, Keith Wilson on Saturday................ And then you can go see the ice carnival in McCall. Yours in Faith, Steve Bate
