President's Message

Dear Members and Friends,

Thank you to the over 100 California Contract Cities Association members and supporters who joined us in Sacramento last month for the 50th Annual State Legislative Orientation Tour. It was a great success, aided by the hard work of several of our members and our able staff who lined up key elected officials from around the Capitol. Photos of the trip can be found here .

CCCA arrived in Sacramento this year with a clear message and materials to back it up. We focused on four key policy areas that are critical to the future of our cities and quality of life in our communities. These are:
  • Over-concentration of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Recovery and Treatment Facilities (Rehabs)/Sober Living Homes
  • Stormwater Infrastructure
  • Homelessness
  • Public Safety

CCC A benefits from the huge diversity of our membership. Small cities and large, urban and suburban, are united by a common mission of efficient government that best serves our residents. This diversity gives our voice strength and wisdom. That was evident during our visit with Legislators.

Many of us are also united by our use of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD). Every year the LASD hosts a seminar to review the latest in their policing tactics, new policies, crime trends and contract implications for their city clients. It is an informative event that addresses one of the largest line items in the budgets of each of our cities. Indeed, a city can't truly understand its finances without understanding its contract with the Sheriff's Department. I urge each member agency to have their city manager or city manager representative attend this event and report back to the city on the information and lessons learned from the gathering. 2017 is off to a great start for CCCA. Our staff is doing an excellent job in their transition year. Membership is active. Our Association is becoming more relevant than ever. I look forward to working with you to continue to make CCCA a valuable resource to your city.

Annual Municipal Seminar Preview

It is not too early to start making plans to attend the Annual Municipal Seminar in Indian Wells. Over 500 of your colleagues, friends and private sector partners will be in attendance to learn and network. The conference runs from May 11 to May 14 and will be back at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort & Spa.  

As Vice President, Mayor Pro Tem Michael Davitt of La Cañada Flintridge is the conference chair and the able team at the City of La Cañada Flintridge is diligently working to make this year's seminar a winner. Registration will open on February 27th, 2017. But for now, block your calendars out and plan to attend.
Board of Directors Meeting - February
Board of Directors meetings are  open to all council members and staff of member agencies along with our Associate Members from the private sector. These gather ings are best when more people attend: city staff and council members are particularly important to the success of these meetings. Relationships and ideas shared at these meetings drive innovation in our communities.

CCCA is unique in LA County for the frequency with which it holds near monthly gatherings of elected leaders. It is a long standing tradition of the Association, but one that can only sustain with member agency involvement. Please join us throughout the year.

California Contract Cities and TNT have had a relationship for almost 4 decades- primarily because it afforded TNT the opportunity to interface with elected officials and staff in the 32 L.A. county cities with whom the company does business.

Council Member Jorge Morales, CCCA Director at Large

City of South Gate Council Member Jorge Morales has been in public service for well over 15 years. Morales began his career serving as a Legislative Aide under Assembly Majority Leader Marco Antonio Firebaugh and has since served various key legislative leaders throughout California. Jorge currently serves as a Senior Strategist for Ek, Sunkin, Klink & Bai, L.L.C., a full-service public affairs, strategic communication and government advocacy firm. In addition, Jorge Morales, Director at Large for California Contract Cities Association, is currently serving as Legislative Committee Chair for the association.
