Camp Kudzu E-News: February 2017 Edition
Meet Our Volunteers: Nate Rubin

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Camp Kudzu. Time and time again, these selfless individuals go above and beyond to make sure that children living with type 1 diabetes get the support they need at Camp Kudzu to live happy, healthy lives. Take for example, Nate Rubin. Nate has been volunteering as a counselor for four years and describes Camp Kudzu as, "not just a summer camp, but a loving family and community." This year, Nate took part in a company-wide contest at his firm, RSM US LLC, called 90-90-9 - Pursue Your Passion, which gives employees a chance to pursue their individual passion by awarding winners $10,000 each.  Of the nearly 300 submissions, Nate was one of nine winners, designating Camp Kudzu as the beneficiary of the award. Because of Nate, this gift will provide scholarships to children needing it most and help cover the cost of diabetes supplies. Thank you, Nate, for continually working to better the lives of our campers.

Spring Family Camp, April 21-23

Register NOW to join us at Spring Family Camp on April 21-23 at Camp Twin Lakes. Family Camp is a great way for the whole family to learn more about diabetes management and receive support from other T1D families and experienced medical professionals.

There will be a food demonstration led by a registered dietitian who will prepare and discuss healthy and exciting options that the whole family will enjoy. Our Endocrinologist will be on-site to give an update on technology advances in the field of type 1 diabetes. To top it all off, "Puppet Dude" will be there working with small groups to put on a show Saturday night!

This year we are excited to announce a new group session for siblings of children with T1D. Led by a mental health professional, topics will range from the feelings that are associated with a sibling's diagnosis to the changes in family dynamics. Siblings will have an opportunity to ask questions and express their own feelings and/or concerns.

Need-based scholarships are available. For more information, please contact Ashley Conant at  [email protected]  or Mandy Conroy at  [email protected]

13th Annual Kudzu Cup Fore! Kids

It's time to get out your plaid pants and dust off your irons... the Kudzu Cup Fore! Kids is right around the corner. Join us on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Country Club of the South for great day golf, philanthropy and even a little friendly competition. The day will be packed full of excitement with premium takeaways, prizes and a Hole-In-One competition. You will not want to miss this one!

Last year, more than 100 golfers gathered for a beautiful day (out of the office) on the course at the sell-out tournament. The success of just that one day provided full scholarships to more than 40 campers who would have otherwise not been able to attend camp. One day of golf for you could easily be the start of a life changing event for a child living with type 1 diabetes.

Here you will find all the information you need to determine how you would like to participate. For more information please contact Mandy Fingerhut at 404-250-1811 ext. 25 or [email protected].
