Across District Five this month, schools are opening their doors and showing their thanks to members of our Board of Trustees.  The celebrations come as districts across South Carolina recognize January as "School Board Appreciation" month.

Board member Julie Mcmakin visited Byrnes High School and enjoyed a luncheon with administrators and student council members.  Members of the Byrnes orchestra also performed during the event.

At D.R. Hill Middle School, board member Rick Eitel was honoring by a breakfast with student council officers, along with Teacher of the Year, Marcia Kay.  There, he was presented with a picture, created by student Karrisa Parks.

Robotics Team Takes Top Prize

The Byrnes High School Robotics team is on a roll, taking home their 2nd championship trophy of the season!

The team recently traveled to Anderson to compete against teams from across the state in the Electric City VEX Tournament.  The school's three teams, the Circuiteers, Rebelvolts, and Robot Wreckers, all showed off their skills and used their knowledge to showcase their talents.  In the end, the Circuiteers from Byrnes walked away with the Tournament Championship!  Team members Antonio Lue, Zane Thomas, Riley Kennedy, Kyler Ray, and Roy Black, with the help of their alliance, were able to make it to the finals and win the tournament.

It's the 2nd team win Byrnes has taken home this year.  The Robot Wreckers won the Golden Corner Tournament as well.  With these wins, both the Robot Wreckers and Circuiteers qualify for the State VEX Championship in Columbia in March.

Way to go Byrnes Robotics!

Reidville Student Writes For Unity

Berry Shoals Students Get Glimpse Of Local Industry

Students from Berry Shoals Intermediate School stepped out of the classroom recently to get an upclose look at local industry.

Students were given the chance to tour Draexlmaier this week, and observed firsthand the Profile of the SC Graduate in action at an international company in their school's backyard.  Students were intrigued by robots, huge machinery and how the inside of BMW's are made.

It was a great lesson in potential future careers!

Student Council Pinned At Abner Creek

A new crop of student leaders were officially welcomed at Abner Creek Academy this week!

The school held its traditional pinning ceremony for its new Student Council members .  Students were selected by their classmates to serve, and during the special ceremony, the officers of the Student Council took their oaths of office and all members recited a membership pledge.

Clemson University's former chief diversity officer, Mr. Leon Wiles, addressed the Student Council members about what leadership means. He referred to many important character traits such as: enthusiasm, respect, and dedication. He also spoke about his being active in student government during his college years as well as how he utilized his leadership skills in the different administrative positions he held at the university level.

Each student leader received a membership pin, a certificate, and enjoyed lunch with their parents, administrators, and faculty advisors.  Abner Creek's student council tries to showcase its pride in school and community by completing a service project each month.

Congratulations to these new Abner Creek Academy leaders!
