Principal's Message
January 13, 2017
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP,
The holidays are behind us. This time of year always feels like the beginning of the school year to me - Students (and teachers) return refreshed and ready to learn. At OLQP, everyone is busy working to make the most of this academic period. Mid-year assessments in reading and math are being analyzed and used to inform instruction. Teachers are gearing up for the next round of school wide project based learning. Recent staff development topics included: curriculum validation, utilizing the on-line components available through the K-5 reading program, and writing across the curriculum. Portfolios are being filled. There are great things ahead as we embark on the second semester.
Staff members traveled to the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament Convent in Victoria for their retreat day. It is always special to return to Sr. Antoinette's mother house. We learned about the beginning of the order and their charism which is greatly influenced by their foundress's writings on the Beatitudes. The history of the order spans across centuries. The foundress, Jeanne Chezard de Matel, was born on Nov. 6, 1596, in France. It was well-established before her death in 1670. The order survived the French Revolution, and in time, began to grow again. When Bishop Odin, the first Bishop of Texas, invited the Sisters to come to Texas, Mother St. Claire Valentine and three companions came from France. They founded the first American convent in Brownsville on Feb. 26, 1853. The house in Victoria was founded on Dec. 21, 1866.  At the 30 th anniversary celebration, the theme "Our roots run deep" was used in the décor...Who knew just how deep our roots truly run? What a blessing!

Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Steps for Students
Help Raise Funds and Awareness for Catholic Education! Steps for  Students 5K is an annual Archdiocesan-wide event that raises awareness of Catholic education and provides much needed funds for our Catholic Schools. All runners/walkers can register to be on the school team of their choice, or can walk independently for the Archdiocesan Tuition Assistance Program. Steps for Students is an opportunity for all members of the Faith community to work together to support education of mind, heart, and spirit in the many Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
If every Steps for Students participant raises only $40, we will raise over $500,000 for our Catholic schools!
