A Journey of Character Building, by MWGM James A. Hensley
"A JOURNEY OF CHARACTER BUILDING"
"For the next 150 years!"
My Brothers,
This being the start of a new year I thought we should recall the beginning of our journey into Freemasonry. The beginning of course starts in each ones heart. As the long form proficiency begins with; where were you first prepared to be made a Mason? Memorization of words is not enough. What we memorize must be accompanied by understanding otherwise our efforts will be in vain. Once we understand what we have memorized and we can emphasize our obligations and lectures, and can impart this knowledge to aid our Brethren in their Masonic journey.
In the Entered Apprentice Mason Degree, the initiate is taught the necessity of an belief in God; charity toward all mankind, "more especially a Brother Mason"; of secrecy; the meaning of brotherly love; the reason for relief; the importance of truth; the advantages of temperance; the value of fortitude; the peace and safety provided by prudence, and the equality of strict justice. He is charged to be reverent before God, to pray to Him for help, to venerate Him as the source al all that is good. He is exhorted to avoid excesses of all kinds and to practice the Golden Rule. He is admonished to be quiet and peaceable, not to countenance disloyalty and rebellion; to be true and just to both his government and his country; to be cheerful under its laws.
The Entered Apprentice Mason is charged to come often to Lodge, but not to neglect his business; not to argue about Freemasonry with the ignorant, the profane or anyone with Anti-Masonic sentiments. It is his obligation to learn Freemasonry and to keep Freemasonry's secrets.....secret.
As we move forward with another year it does us all good to look back and recall our first experience as an Entered Apprentice Masons. I recall thinking that I would never be able to learn all the lessons taught to me that first night in Lodge. But, through the help of many Brothers those lessons became clear as time passed on. As Rome was not built in a day, neither is Freemasonry built or learned in a day. It is a lifetime of learning and the experience of a lifetime. I don't know where I would be or what I would have accomplished in life without Freemasonry, without all the Brotherly Love and Friendship that have resulted from that thought that came into my heart over 30 years ago and convinced me to ask that question; how do I become a Mason? That journey continues today, it is a lifetime of learning. I give you these thoughts to you and hope you can relate them to our journey together.
Two very important tools in our journey as Entered Apprentices are the 24 Inch Gauge, which is used to divide our time; equally divided in the service of God and a distressed worthy Brother, a part for our usual vocation and a part for refreshment, and the Common Gavel, which is used to break off the rough part of stones so they could be used for the builder's purpose of laying a true foundation. That building, which is you, must use both the plumb and level or it will be viewed as shoddy work and may become a pile of rubble.
Fraternal Love, James A. Hensley MWGM 2016-2017

Lincoln Lodge #59 - Meeting Cancellation

Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2017 7:59 PM Subject: Meeting Cancelation
Brethren,
The meeting for Lincoln Lodge # 59 has been canceled due to the complications caused by recent snow falls. The parking lot and lodge walkways are in a dismal condition and pose a hazard to parking as well as foot traffic.
The WM has for these reasons canceled our Stated Meeting for the 12th of January. If you have questions please contact the Secretary or the WM, Bro. Johnny Willis..

BOISE LODGE #2 A.F. & A.M.
We are hoping all Brothers and their families are surviving this awful winter. We are in a new year and are excited to see what the new officers have in store for the Lodges of Idaho.
Remember that this year is the 300th Anniversary of Freemasonry, having been organized in 1717 in London. This year also marks the 150th Anniversary of the Grand Lodge of Idaho. We hope all lodges are planning some sort of celebration of our beginning. The Grand Lodge of Idaho was formed on December 17, 1867 in Idaho City.
The Lodge had a great Stated Meeting last Tuesday and we look forward to a new year of Masonic activities with an energetic group of officers under the leadership of Wor. Bro. Jim Ladd WM.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, January 10th will be a practice session for those wanting help in the opening and closing ritual.
