Kinney Pike E-Newsletter                   December 2016
Winter weather has finally arrived in Vermont. The cold weather and snow associated with the holidays here can be beautiful, but also bring some dangerous conditions.

We want to remind everyone to take the necessary precautions when driving, shoveling, and walking in wintry conditions Read up on some winter driving tips, invest in some good snow tires, and allow yourself extra travel time when driving. Slippery road conditions cause traffic to move much more slowly, so plan accordingly.

Don't forget to go out and enjoy the fantastic winter activities our region has to offer, like skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding!
Community Events

Kinney Pike is getting into the holiday season by donating to various charities and organizations to spread the season's cheer.

Our Williston office has come together to raise money for a donation to the Socks For Seniors charity. Every year around the holidays, the Socks for Seniors nonprofit works hard country-wide to gather warm socks to donate to financially challenged seniors. 40 pairs of socks will be donated to the cause this year, helping The Williston Observer to reach their goal of 200.

Kinney Pike is partnered with the Champlain Valley Association of Insurance Professionals, which annually donates to a selected non-profit organization around this time. This year, the December Giving Project Recipient is The King Street Center. The King Street Center aims to promote wellness through educational, recreational, and social programs. It is a non-profit organization located in Burlington that provides children and families with valuable life building skills for a bright future. This year, we will be donating various school supplies to the children there.

In Rutland, the employees held a luncheon and a pie eating contest to help raise money for the Adopt-A-Family Foundation. This foundation provides donors with a wish list of gifts for families in need. This year, the office filled the wishlists of two families!

In White River Junction, Kinney Pike employees donated their time preparing a dinner for members of David's House. David's House is an organization that gives housing to families who need to be close to their loved ones battling cancer at the nearby Dartmouth-Hitchcock hospital   in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Each year, employees from Kinney Pike travel to David's House to prepare a dinner for the families staying there. Morgan, Jess, Ryan, and Tina all donated their time to give those families a good meal.

The ladies in our Swanton office donated to the Abenaki Nation at Missisquoi. They helped to sponsor their annual Christmas party event for the whole community. Santa and Mrs. Claus even made an appearance and gave every child a gift! Community partners in the area came together to help fund the event and purchase the gifts for the children.

Lost Nation Theater

It's winter in Vermont, and that means it's time for some classic "Vermont Made" activities such as skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing. But when the sun goes down, (and it goes down early these days), the fun doesn't have to stop. Why? Because when the sun goes down, the curtain comes up...at Lost Nation Theater.

Located at City Hall in downtown Montpelier, "Vermont Made" Lost Nation Theater has been wowing audiences for nearly 40 years with plays, musicals, concerts, and documentaries from Broadway to Barre.

Founded in Bristol, VT back in 1977, Lost Nation's vision was to create a theater program that would not only contribute to the vitality of the community, but also produce stimulating drama in original and innovative ways; as well as provide a year-round professional performing arts ensemble and quality-oriented theater training programs.

The ensemble took up permanent quarters in Montpelier in 1986, and today puts on scores of events every year, including five mainstage shows, two to three "theater for kids" shows, radio plays, cabarets, concerts and more.

If it's been awhile since you've treated yourself to an evening of theater - or if you've had it on your list but haven't yet found the time - now is the time to reserve your seat. Upcoming shows include the Dave Keller Band; Judevine, a Tribute to Vermont by David Budbill; Into the Woods, a Tony Award winning musical from Stephen Sondheim; and Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days.

"From the beginning, Lost Nation has been dedicated to staging about the hopeful possibilities of human interaction," says Artistic Director Kim Bent, "as well as realizing and unleashing the powerful potential of theater to transform people and communities. If you've never experienced a Lost Nation Play, I invite you to round up a group of friends, dine in one of Montpelier's outstanding restaurants, and then join us for an evening you'll never forget."

Coming up on the Mainstage in 2017:

David Budbill's Judevine: Vermont original (Apr 20-May 7)
Into the Woods: Tony winning musical (June 1-18)
Around the World in 80 Days: zany comedy (July 6-23)
Kate-the Unexamined life of Katherine Hepburn: star power (Sept 7-17)
Will: world premiere about The Bard (Oct 5-22)

LNT is also committed to Education and offers a host of first-rate education programs for ages 6-21 from 1 week skill development camps to productions. LNT's Theater FOR Kids BY Kids shows in 2017:

Song of the Sea (Fri Mar 3)
Fractured Fables (June 20)
Alexander & the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day (Aug 4-5)
Mary Poppins (Aug 18-20)
