Dates and Locations Announced for 2017 AEA Connect Conferences
The Aircraft Electronics Association recently unveiled the following dates and locations for its 2017 AEA Connect Conferences. 
Advance registration for all AEA Connect Conferences will be accepted online in early 2017.  The Canada Connect and Latin America Connect dates and locations will be finalized and announced in early 2017. The AEA annually hosts conferences in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America and the South Pacific. The AEA Connect Conferences offer a forum to see, hear and learn about all the new technology on the market, network with industry peers and discover best practices for the aviation repair station industry. Attendees and exhibitors gather for two days of regulatory and technical seminars, business management sessions and exhibits. More...

Avionics News Technical Training Exam Available Online 
Are you up to the test? The 16th annual Avionics News Technical Training Exam is now available online for AEA members. The test also may be downloaded by non-members. By completing the exam, which covers regulatory and technical topics featured in the 2016 issues of Avionics News, technicians can get a head start on their FAA-accepted training. Don't have all 12 issues of Avionics News from the past year? No problem. They are all available online in the digital archives right at your fingertips. Individuals who complete the exam and score 85 percent or higher receive credit toward their repair station training program requirements, IA renewal, the FAA AMT awards and the AEA Avionics Training Excellence Award. Applications for the AEA's ATE Award are available online, and the deadline for submitting applications is April 1, 2017.  More...

FAA logo FAA Issues Final Medical Rule for General Aviation 
On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the Federal Aviation Administration issued a final rule that allows airmen to exercise pilot in command privileges in certain aircraft without holding a current medical certificate. According to the agency, this rule, which conforms FAA regulations with legislation, is intended to ensure that pilots who complete a medical education course, meet certain medical requirements, and comply with aircraft and operating restrictions are allowed to act as pilot in command for most Part 91 operations. Merger Helps Twin Cities Aviation  Expand its Avionics Capabilities 
After nearly 20 years, Twin Cities Aviation of Blaine, Minnesota, is expanding its aircraft electronics and avionics capabilities. In August, the Part 145 repair station and authorized Cirrus service center joined long-time Florida AEA member Custom Avionics under the banner of a newly formed aerospace and defense group, TC Aero Group.  The group encompasses six companies comprised of mostly smaller aviation-related specialists. Larry Williams of Custom Avionics and Bill Ahmann, founder of Twin Cities Aviation, are principal owners in the new venture.  More...

GARMIN  announced its successor to the G1000 integrated flight deck, the G1000 NXi. Boasting a modernized flight display design with significant performance enhancements, the G1000 NXi incorporates capabilities into a state-of-the-art avionics platform, according to Garmin. The company also announced expanded pilot training opportunities for 2017 to include additional classes throughout the United States. In addition to scheduled classes for the GTN 650/750 touchscreen navigator series and G500/G600 glass flight display systems, on-demand classes for the G1000, G3000, and G5000 Integrated Flight Decks and supplemental eLearning opportunities are available. 

FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS announced that National Flight Services selected the RA4000 and RA4500 series radar altimeters for its mobile installation program. 

328 SUPPORT SERVICES GmbH recently partnered with DUNCAN AVIATION to deliver and certify a full cabin completion on a Finnish registered, Bombardier Challenger 604 aircraft. 

L3 WESCAM recently won defense contracts valued at more than $90 million. The orders will provide a range of MX-Series electro-optical/infrared imaging systems to global customers operating in the airborne and maritime domains. 

DAC INTERNATIONAL received an STC for the Esterline CMA-6800 Display for the Sikorsky S76B/C Helicopter. The STC includes the S76C+ and S76C++ models. 

AIRFLYTE will now operate as Rectrix MRO, Inc. The rebranding stems from the 2013 acquisition of AirFlyte by Rectrix and specifically markets the company for its MRO services. 

WESTERN AIRCRAFT will partner with GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION to develop STCs for Gogo's 4G system for Dassault Falcon 2000 series aircraft, and will participate as a partner for hardware sales and installations on other business aircraft. 

GUARDIAN AVIONICS introduced a new USB power upgrade option for aircraft owners who have an old 12-volt cigarette lighter socket in their current panel -- the Guardian Avionics Power 250-101R Dual 2.1 Amp USB Power Supply with a 0.9-inch diameter round faceplate designed to fit a standard round cigarette lighter socket opening in the instrument panel. 

STANDARDAERO was selected as the U.S. Navy's Rolls-Royce T56 engine maintenance depot provider for 2017. The maintenance work will be performed at StandardAero's engine facilities located at Port San Antonio, Texas, and Winnipeg, Canada. 

DUNCAN AVIATION announced that the manager at the Denver, Colorado, satellite facility, BOB HAZY, will assume responsibility for the Duncan Aviation Sacramento and Hayward, California, satellite shops. WAYNE SAND, install team lead, who has been working on avionics in the Denver, Colorado, area for 28 years, will take over as manager of the Denver and Broomfield satellite shops. The company also launched an exclusive customer program encouraging business aircraft operators to solidify their upgrade plans for ADS-B well before the Jan. 1, 2020, ADS-B mandate deadline. In addition, Duncan Aviation recently completed a hangar renovation that allows additional paint capacity and more paint schedule flexibility for its full-service Battle Creek, Michigan, location. 

JEPPESEN signed a five-year service agreement with LOT Polish Airlines, the flagship carrier of Poland, to provide digital charting for LOT's electronic flight bag platform. 

AERO DYNAMIX announced another aircraft model and STC added to its list of
NVG certifications. The FAA issued STC# SR9868AC to ADI for the Robinson R44 Night Vision Compatible Lighting System, which is comprised of a combination of both internal avionics modifications, as well as the addition of a NVIS white LED overlay and instrument cluster. 

PRO STAR AVIATION, in partnership with Rockwell Collins,  designed an STC to address ADS-B compliance for the vast number of aircraft equipped with BendixKing MST-67A transponders associated with the BendixKing CAS-67A or B TCAS II system. 

BANYAN AIR SERVICE President DON CAMPION was recently crowned Chief Alatunse of Egbe Land, which means revitalizer and rebuilder of our village. He was honored with this chieftaincy title for his leadership and support to the Egbe Hospital Revitalization Project. 

CONSTANT AVIATION named STAN YOUNGER to its senior leadership team. 

GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP.'s 650ER recently claimed two more city-pair records. The G650ER took off from Ohio's John Glenn Columbus International Airport and landed at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport 14 hours and 35 minutes later, covering 6,750 nautical miles/12,501 kilometers at an average cruise speed of Mach 0.85. Following that flight, the aircraft flew 6,143 nm/11,377 km from Taipei Taoyuan International Airport to Arizona's Scottsdale Airport, cruising at Mach 0.90 the entire trip. The total flight time was just 10 hours and 57 minutes.
