Anouk Goemans travels from the Netherlands to accept APSAC's award for Outstanding Article in the Journal of Child Maltreatment

"I was very surprised, honored and happy that our meta-analysis was chosen by the editorial board as the best article of 2016 in Child Maltreatment. I wrote this meta-analysis as part of my PhD on the development of children in foster care. To receive the award, I was invited at the APSAC Summit in Portland. I did not really consider going, as it is quite a journey from the Netherlands and my PhD defense was scheduled shortly after the summit. However, both my supervisors strongly encouraged me to go, so I did. I greatly enjoyed Portland, the summit, and the many inspiring people. Thank you APSAC! A day after the summit I returned home but almost missed my stopover in Boston because the plane was delayed. In the end everything turned out alright. Slightly jet-lagged but fully energized by the great experience, I successfully defended my PhD. In my current position as assistant professor, I hope to continue research into this important topic."
