The MCA 2017 charity of choice was the Calgary Food Bank. The Calgary Food Bank (CFB) is often the first-line of emergency food support for families and individuals in crisis. So far, this year the CFB has distributed 68,084 emergency hampers. 

Throughout 2017, at the golf tournaments and curling bonspiels MCA collected $3,319.00 from 50/50 draws, the coin toss and balloon popping games. This will be donated to the CFB before Christmas. If you would like to top-up this donation please contact the MCA.

A big thank you to everyone who participated in these events. If you would like to make an additional contribution to this worthy cause, please contact the MCA office this week and we can include your donation along with the MCA cheque. The Edmonton Food Bank will be our charity of choice for 2018.

Thank you to the great group of members who came out to celebrate the three new inductees to the "Old Timers Group" Darrel Hilman from SAIT, Darryl Reinhart from the City of Calgary, and Alan Jaskolski from Merit Mechanical. Celebrating those who gave so much to the industry over the years is so important.

We saw a lot of new faces attend this year as we opened the event up to spouses and employees to take advantage of the fun money casino and low rates to stay over at the Fairmont Palliser hotel.

We hope to see more members attend next year!

Our Edmonton Young Executives hosted a mechanical tour of Rogers Place this past month. It was a sold-out event where we toured the front and the back of the house. A huge thank you to Jason, Director, Engineering and Ice Operations who shared so many interesting facts about the building and ice. The photo to the right is taken in front of the Oilers 30,000 square foot change room! We look forward to organizing a second tour date as we had so much interest.

On the morning of December 6, 2017 a first was achieved in Canada; the Ontario Legislature unanimously passed Bill 142: An Act to amend the Construction Lien Act. This is legislation which incorporates and implements a system of prompt payment and adjudication processes. Ontario is now the first Canadian jurisdiction to address long-standing trade contractor concerns around the practice of unjustified payment delays in construction contracts.
