Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.

This week we celebrated both Lessons and Carols and a Christmas  presentation  from our Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st grades.  At both concerts we were surrounded with the makings of  Christmas.  We had little angels singing, bells ringing, some cattle lowing, and similar circumstances as Jesus with little room in the inn.

When things are cramped and uncomfortable, I cannot help but consider how difficult a manger crib was as a welcoming to the world.  The humble birth or our Savior tells us something of his willingness to suffer that we may receive the benefits of Christmas.

The angels sang, "Glory to God in the Highest!"  Their shouts were heavenward as they ascribed above the glory due His name. Rather than seeking glory for ourselves, we echo that song this season by asking God to be glorified among us, among our families, among our cities and towns as people recognize the glory of God revealed in Jesus Christ.

To Him belongs the glory.  To us He promises peace.   "Peace on earth and goodwill toward men," the angels continued to proclaim in the great exchange whereby our sins and enmity with God are replaced with a bond of peace.  Peace with God.  Peace with our fellow men and women.  Peace in our hearts that passes understanding, and peace which overcomes the world.  His peace.  Heavenly peace.

This is the gift of Christ to the world at Christmas, and that peace is His everlasting benediction as He completed His work and returned to the Father.

"Peace I leave with you.  My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."  John 14:27
