LEDs Drive Contemporary Luminaire Design

Today's decorative luminaire designs express more about what's not there than what is. The LED has freed designers from clunky lamps and the heavy luminaire structures and optics needed to house them. Minimalism captures the zeitgeist, and contemporary technologies make it possible. Decorative and linear pendants float and bend. Sconces, post tops and bollards are shells of their former selves, holding negative space within.
 
New Summit at LightShow West to Focus on Controls
In the age of smart buildings, intelligent systems and smart homes, the central element is a control system that performs one or more functions to increase the flexibility of systems used, including lighting. For the first time, LightShow West will focus a full day of education on lighting systems on Thursday, October 12. The inaugural Control Systems Summit: A Lighting Revolution features four 60-minute seminars as well as a show floor tour - led by James Benya, principal of Benya Burnett Consultancy - to visit many of the controls companies exhibiting at LightShow West.

Lumen West Awards Gala - A Glitzy Event Celebrating LA's Lighting Luminaries

The Los Angeles lighting industry turned out in full force at the spiffy, black-tie-optional 20th Annual Lumen West Awards Gala, held June 24th - kicking off with cocktails in the Gold Ballroom at the Biltmore. The 450 attendees then moved to the Crystal Ballroom, and once the honors were bestowed and dinner polished off, they headed back to the Gold Ballroom for the after-party, featuring a 10-piece dance band.
