Principal's Message
December 9, 2016
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP,
At Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School, Faith is not left at the door but welcomed into class regardless of the subject being taught. The Kindergarten - Eighth grade Christmas program, "Novena de Navidad" is a prime example of how the Faith is integrated into the curriculum. Students studied the history of the novena, applied foreign language skills, and practiced singing as well as performance arts skills. During the performance, the novena was shared with all who attended. Staff, volunteers, and students worked together to give this gift to friends and families of OLQP in honor of the Christ Child. The blessing given is a piece of Christmas to keep in our hearts to help us remember the true meaning of the season.  As in "Cascabel," we sang:
Christmas has arrived, our family is so happy. Celebrating Christmas Eve in the peace of our holy home.
Ring, ring, ring the bells, with joyful music, announcing His coming!
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Principal
Counting Our Blessings...
Mrs. Marshall for directing and coordinating the K-8 Christmas Program
Mrs. Nachtegaele for sharing her gifts and talents with OLQP
Coach Richards, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Peltier, and Mrs. Ondrey for "behind the scenes" support
Home and School parents for refreshments and decorations
All the families who helped with clean up after the program
Day of Giving
Each year, OLQP launches an annual giving campaign to reach out to families and friends for support. This year, the kick-off is  #GivingWednesday on Dec. 14. Be sure to check us out on Facebook and share with families and friends. We are hoping for 1,000 "likes" before the end of the day on the 14th! Click here to learn more.
Treasures of the Church
On Monday, from 10- 3:30 in Marian Hall, there will be a program hosted by "Treasures of the Church." Fr. Carlos Martins will teach the children about relics, the history of different saints, and more. Parents and friends of OLQP are welcome to attend. There is a session at 10:00 for lower elementary. A second session for grades 4- 8 will be at 12:30.
Living Rosary
Each year, students at OLQP pray the "Living Rosary." This beautiful prayer is led by middle school students. Each of the prayers of the rosary is represented by a student who holds a candle. As each prayer is prayed, the candle is lit resulting in the hall being filled with candle light. This year, the "Living Rosary" was prayed on  the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
News You Can Use...
Middle School Mid-Term Exams
It is important to start with the end in mind when setting long term goals. Our goal at OLQP is to prepare students for success whether they matriculate to the local high schools or choose to attend the Catholic high schools in Houston, which are among the best in the country. In order to be prepared, students need to be ready for the rigor of AP classes. With that in mind, middle school students are being taught how to study for cumulative exams. Good luck, Students!
