This week: "One Bead at a Time" Book Event
|
"One Bead at a Time" is an oral memoir of Beverly Little Thunder, a two-spirit Lakota Elder from Standing Rock, who has lived most of her life in service to Indigenous and non-Indigenous women in vast areas of both the United States and Canada. Transcribed and edited by two-spirit Métis writer Sharron Proulx-Turner, Little Thunder's narrative is told verbatim, her melodious voice and keen sense of humor almost audible overtop of the text on the page. - 6-8pm The Student Diversity Union of South Burlington High School is hosting a screening of the documentary '13th.' The film centers on race in the US criminal justice system. The title references the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution, which outlawed slavery (unless as punishment for a crime). Ava DuVernay's documentary argues that slavery is being effectively perpetuated through mass incarceration. Facebook link.

Many young people have expressed concerns regarding their safety and are unsure of their futures.
