Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Phil 4:6

Straight from the Head

Robert Lee Head of School |
The theme of this month is our pillar of unity. It is one of my favorites. Unity, according to Webster, is "the state of being one; oneness. Unity may consist of a simple substance or existing being, as the soul; but usually it consists in a close junction of particles or parts."
The beauty of unity is not that we are uniform, but that many different parts of the body work together to achieve one purpose.
From unity we derive other words such as
community. One of the key ways we encourage community at Christ Covenant School in our annual Chicken Dinner. This will be the ninth year running thanks to Cindy Suter and our parent volunteers who have kept the vision alive for so many years. As important as the effort is to raising money, something higher and richer than riches always emerges from the smoking grills and soaking chickens...a sense of unity.
This dinner is too big for any one person to pull off, so we literally need all hands on deck to sell, cook, pack, and clean. Your role may not be the same as others, but every part is critical for the project to succeed. There is a block below with all of the information you need for this event. I've included the important links below. So grab your grill, save the date of November 17th, buy your tickets, and make plans to be a part of this community event.
"How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity."
Psalm 133:1

Parent Teacher Conferences |
- Parent-teacher conferences are Thursday, November 9 12:30-4:30. Students attend a 1/2 day of school in the morning with release at 11:45 a.m.
-
Should you sign up?
Parent-
teacher
conferences are optional and open to any
parent who has an interest in meeting with
teachers.
If you are unsure whether you should sign up, our advice is that you schedule appointments only as needed in the interest of preserving limited appointment slots to benefit
parents whose child(ren) may need specific guidance. If your child is already performing well (straight A student or A/B overall), and you are satisfied with their academic performance and progress, a scheduled
conference is probably not necessary unless you have a specific concern. Either way, we welcome your input/questions and regardless of our Parent/Conference scheduled days, our teachers are available at any time to discuss the progress of your child.
Some
parents have said they feel compelled to attend
conferences as a way of demonstrating support for their child's academic development. Please be assured that this is not the case, especially if your child is performing exceptionally well.
If the available time slots do not meet your needs, we encourage you to contact your child's
teacher directly.

Quick Reminders
|
|
The National Honor Society is preparing shoebox gifts to send to children around the world through the ministry Operation Christmas Child as one of their service projects for the year. Their goal is to pack 50 shoe boxes for boys and girls ages 10-14 years old. We would love to invite any Upper School student to participate by bringing various donated items to the collection boxes in Mrs. Beyer's room (room 4) after Fall Break. Feel free to bring any items on the list (or pack an entire shoe box if you like!). The lists are published in RenWeb announcements. In an effort to obtain a variety of items, we have suggested a category for each grade level. Thank you for your help! We will accept items through November 13. You may visit the OCC website or contact Mrs. Beyer ([email protected]) with any questions.
