 Steady Progress: Part 25 ADS-B Options Growing Stronger as Time to Comply Shrinks
Avionics News' Dave Higdon reports that ADS-B options for air-carrier and business-turbine aircraft continue to grow. Today, avionics makers and installation shops offer solutions for a growing percentage of Part 25 aircraft actively flying. Despite the growth in options, however, analysts, avionics makers and market watchers echo the same call to operators -- one which sounds much like an admonition to operators: Set up something, if not a solution selection, at least a scheduled installation slot even if no solution yet exists for your aircraft. FAA Acts to Preserve your Repair Station's Rights!
Many repair stations have experienced some issues with the Maintenance Annex Guidance between the United States and the European Union.
One significant factor feeding this issue
is the repair station's power to inspect a part (within their ratings) and find that it is acceptable for installation.
That power has been formally curtailed for
U.S. repair stations that bear EASA credentials, and it has only been "extended" through a Federal Aviation Administration Notice that temporarily invalidates part of the FAA-EASA agreement.

ROSEN AVIATION
introduced RosenView Access, a smart infotainment network designed to be simple, flexible, scalable and affordable.
GARMIN introduced the touchscreen G500 TXi, G600 TXi and G700 TXi flight displays, as well as the engine information system. It also announced an addition to its portfolio of integrated flight deck upgrades to now include the G1000 NXi for the Cessna Citation Mustang. Garmin also unveiled the GWX 80, a new weather radar that incorporates automated atmospheric threat assessment capabilities to help reduce pilot workload in the cockpit. Garmin announced that Martin Truex Jr., Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Toyota and the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Regular Season Champion, has become Garmin's latest brand ambassador, and his Beechjet has been equipped with a G5000 integrated flight deck. Garmin also announced the Garmin Head-up Display (GHD 2100) for super-midsize business aircraft continues to make progress with flight testing and certification on the Cessna Citation Longitude in conjunction with the G5000 integrated flight deck.
L3 AVIATION PRODUCTS announced that its EFI-650 cockpit display has been certified by the EASA for installation on ATR 42/72 regional turboprop aircraft. ATR has launched the EFI-650 retrofit program to replace Cathode Ray Tube displays in its customers' legacy aircraft. Deliveries are now underway.
ELLIOTT AVIATION installed a milestone for Garmin with the delivery of the 500th G1000 integrated flight deck upgrade for a King Air aircraft. Earlier this year, Garmin began deliveries of the G1000 NXi for King Air aircraft, which carries on the lineage of the G1000 integrated flight deck. Elliott Aviation also launched a custom maintenance tracking app titled Elliott Connect. The company is currently in beta testing and planning to offer the service to all customers at its three service centers by the first quarter of 2018. It also will soon be offering LED cabin lighting and electronic window shades manufactured by the Elliott Technologies division.

FLYING COLOURS CORP.
delivered an enhanced carbon-copy of the
red, white and black carbon fiber cabin, that was originally designed for a Bombardier Challenger 850 in 2013. The company also announced that the third phase of its long-term expansion strategy has begun as work is underway on the first round of infrastructure development at the St. Louis facility.
GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION's AVANCE L5 was selected by Dassault Aviation to be a factory option on new production Falcon 2000S, 2000LXS, 900LX, 5X, 7X and 8X airframes. Embraer selected Gogo Business Aviation's AVANCE L5 for its Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 business jets.
VALAIR AVIATION is expanding its product and service offerings as a Gogo Business Aviation dealer of in-flight connectivity systems.
BENDIXKING announced that its MST 70B transponder has completed helicopter vibration testing. ACSS completed the testing for the transponder, and the new technology has passed and is ready for certification on board commercial helicopters. In addition to helicopters, the technology is currently available across a variety of fixed-wing applications such as business jets and military aircraft.
ASTRONICS CORP.'s Max-Viz announced that more than 2,500 of its Enhanced Vision Systems have now been installed in rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft. Astronics Ballard Technology introduced its new Wireless Aircraft Communications Server (webCS) -- the industry's first highly-integrated smart AID/server/router that enables aircraft operators to easily capture, record, and process aircraft data. Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems was selected by six major North American airlines to install EMPOWER in-seat power systems on up to 1,400 narrow-body and regional jet aircraft.
FDS AVIONICS named MATT GROSSHANS vice president of operations and WES DeMOSS strategic business development manager. The company also introduced two new moving maps for business and private aviation. Both maps, do 3D Moving Map and do 2D Moving Map, are stand-alone hardware solutions that use technology developed for the do CAPSULE.
DEVICE TECHNOLOGIES' research study noted that switching from the traditional nylon grommet MS21266 to the more advanced M22529/2 grommet edging can dramatically save time and money over an aircraft's 30-year life cycle. The study showed that the traditional nylon grommet MS21266 is 206 percent more expensive than M22529/2 when the 30-year costs of installation, inspection, replacement and repair are assessed.
COBHAM SATCOM and Avionica have joined forces to provide the industry's smallest and lightest Inmarsat satcom solution for simultaneous cockpit and cabin communications.
JEPPESEN announced a three-year service renewal agreement with Air Malta to provide Jeppesen's FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag services on iPad, in addition to digital charting data and NavData global navigation services for the airline. Jeppesen also announced a five-year service agreement with Azores Airlines to provide digital flight operations solutions so the airline can begin to eliminate paper-based materials to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs. Jeppesen and ForeFlight announced that Jeppesen's proprietary data-driven en route charts are now available within the ForeFlight Mobile application. Jeppesen and Honeywell introduced an enhanced data package for the companies shared Integrated Navigation Data Services for installed Honeywell avionics.
CHICAGO JET GROUP chose Latitude Technologies Corp.'s DL150 SDU and the SkyNode S200-012 for Satcom Safety Services Data and SATVOICE solution to include on its extensive list of STCs held for Dassault Falcon, Gulfstream and Bombardier Challenger Series Aircraft.
LATITUDE TECHNOLOGIES now offers its SkyNode 200 Safety Services SATVOICE (Satcom) system on the PC-24 Super Versatile jet.
SATCOM DIRECT developed the SD LTE Hub, which has received parts manufacturer approval from the FAA. The compact router will be the smallest form factor on the market, yet is capable of supporting the latest cellular, Wi-Fi and satellite technology. Satcom Direct's FANS-1/A Data Link Unit is the first system to achieve FAA TSO-C159c for FANS over Iridium flight deck data communications. Satcom Direct also will transition the TrueNorth Avionics brand to SD Avionics in the coming months. Satcom Direct signed an agreement with FlightSafety International to offer its certified cabin crew training course, aeroCNCT, through the global training organization. Satcom Direct and ForeFlight announced a new integrated data solution for joint Satcom Direct Router and ForeFlight Performance customers.
AVMAX recently leased one Fokker F50 msn 20250 to Buffair, Kenya, and one Fokker F50 msn 20223 to Silverstone Air Services Ltd., Kenya. It also purchased one Dash 8-103 aircraft msn 593 from Ryukyu Air Commuter Co., Ltd, Japan.
FLAMINGO AIR will join fellow aviation leaders such as Delta, Pratt & Whitney, and FedEx to offer an exclusive scholarship to members of the Association for Women in Aviation Maintenance. Additionally, Flamingo Air will be awarding an Aircraft Dispatcher Certification course scholarship at the WAI Convention in Reno. Owner SHARON McGEE was honored by Venue Media as a recipient of the 2017 Women of Influence Award.
GENESYS AEROSYSTEMS used the NBAA Convention to officially launch
the company's next-generation S-TEC 5000 Digital Flight Control System for Part 25 turboprops and business jets. The company also named BARRY LeBLANC regional sales manager; NICK BOGNER director of business development; and CHRIS SULDO HeliSAS sales specialist.
HONEYWELL has refreshed its MyAerospace e-commerce portal to simplify online ordering and tracking processes, cutting the steps required by more than 20 percent and improving turnaround time by 50 percent. Honeywell's HTF7700L, the latest model in the HTF7000 family of engines, has now been certified by the FAA for the Cessna Citation Longitude, the upcoming super mid-size aircraft from Textron Aviation Inc. Honeywell released an upgrade to its CNX-900 router that allows business aviation operators to reap the benefits of wireless database loading, and connected aircraft equipped with Honeywell's Primus Epic avionics system can now remotely stage their flight navigation databases onto aircraft from Honeywell's secure server. Honeywell is expanding its Primus Elite cockpit offerings with new FAA certifications for Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, Embraer and Fairchild-Dornier aircraft.
ESTERLINE Avionics Systems was selected by Honeywell Aerospace to supply the Synthetic Vision System PFD for Honeywell's Primus Elite 875 / 885 upgrade with advanced features.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. launched Aircraft Ownership Service, a comprehensive and customizable suite of aircraft maintenance and flight operations services that aircraft owners, flight departments and management companies can tailor to meet their specific needs. Gulfstream debuted its fully outfitted Gulfstream G600 at the NBAA Convention.
STANDARDAERO Business Aviation's Houston facility performed the industry's first installation of an ALTO Aviation Cadence Switch System CMS/IFE enhancement on a Falcon 900EX aircraft. StandardAero and Martin Aviation signed a three-year authorized service center agreement for PT6A engine services. StandardAero announced the expansion of its PT6A turboprop engine field services at its Houston Hobby Airport location to better serve operators in the Texas region and bordering states.
B. COLEMAN AVIATON's aircraft management and private air charter division, Coleman Jet, announced its Gulfstream IV is one of the first recipients of the Gogo AVANCE L5 to be installed on a Part 135 charter aircraft.
CONSTANT AVIATION named LANE CLAPSADDLE special accounts sales manager. The company also announced the opening of the hangar doors on its newest location at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona.
AVIATION SUPPLIERS ASSOCIATION named the following individuals to serve on its board of directors: Barry Allen, Adam Chiamulon, Kerri Crowley, Reynaldo Roche, Mary Wanke, Nicole Wright and Jimmy Wu.
DUNCAN AVIATION expanded its Parts & Rotables Sales customer service with the addition of KATHERINE VICTORY and APRIL BISCAMP, two bilingual sales and customer service representatives. Duncan Aviation's Battle Creek, Michigan, facility installed the company's first Gogo AVANCE L5 from Gogo Business Aviation in a Gulfstream GIV-SP. Duncan Aviation's satellite avionics shops and workaway stations are collaborating with LoPresti Aviation to offer customers quick, flat-rate installation of the BoomBeam High Intensity Discharge lighting system on a variety of business aircraft. Duncan Aviation was recognized by Bombardier Business Aircraft for its performance in 2016 as a top authorized service facility in the support of Bombardier customers.
DAC INTERNATIONAL received a contract and purchase order for the delivery of Northrop Grumman LITEF, LCR100 Attitude Heading Reference System and DAC Manufactured Compass Control Units in support of the USAF, C-21A Avionics Modernization Program from the prime contractor Global Aviation Technologies.
VECTOR AEROSPACE is celebrating its 35th anniversary servicing the Boeing Chinook heavy-lift helicopter in the U.K. Vector Aerospace entered into an exclusive agreement with CareFlight to provide the Australian aeromedical operator with Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engine services.
McMURDO GROUP's Orolia announced that its French facility based in Britany (Guidel) has obtained Part 145 certification from the FAA for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of its Kannad Emergency Locator Transmitter product range.
SAFE FLIGHT INSTRUMENT CORP. said that its AutoPower system has been well received as an option on the Nextant Challenger 604XT, and the adaption rate has been 100 percent to date. The company also announced that the Safe Flight Digital Angle of Attack (AoA) System is in flight test on the Viking Series 400 Twin Otter.
AERO DYNAMIX and Air Medical Resources Group successfully completed the latest FAA STC certifications for AMRG's newest addition to its fleet, the Airbus H130. The H130 STC SR09882AC NVG modification is comprised of a combination of internal lighting modifications to OEM equipment, replacement of illuminated panels and additions of NVG compatible overlays.

ACI JET announced
the completion of its three-month remodeling project at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California. The company has begun construction on its new $17 million corporate headquarters at San Luis Obispo Airport. ACI Jet signed an agreement with Universal Avionics, establishing the company as an authorized dealer for Universal Avionics' product lines. ACI Jet also announced the completion of an authorized dealer agreement with Rockwell Collins to distribute, install and maintain Rockwell Collins' equipment.
FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL announced FlightSafety Platinum, a new training services program that provides customization, services and flexibility; the company's third full flight simulator for the Gulfstream G280 aircraft will be installed at the company's Learning Center in Savannah, Georgia; it unveiled a further expansion of its ATP CTP training program, as the course is now provided using simulators for corporate aircraft; it expanded its eLearning program with three new online courses; and the company is extending its Honeywell training programs to Brisbane, Australia.
CUTTER AVIATION began a year-long 90th anniversary celebration during the NBAA Convention in Las Vegas. The company was founded in 1928.
METRO AVIATION company Outerlink announced EASA and Transport Canada STC approval of its fully integrated IRIS voice, video, flight data and broadband satcom system in the Sikorsky S92 helicopter.
TECHNISONIC announced TSO approval of its new TDAP-611 audio panel.
FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS introduced its Model 1201C SBAS/GNSS sensor. As an ADS-B rule-compliant position source, the 1201C SBAS/GNSS sensor meets the rigorous performance requirements of GPS certification. It also announced the successful integration of its model 1203C SBAS/GNSS sensor and Applied Avionics' VIVISUN fault annunciator. The company noted that a leading U.S. air cargo airline operator will equip its mainline fleet with the FreeFlight Systems 1203C SBAS/GNSS sensor and RANGR ADS-B receiver.
BECKER AVIONICS and FreeFlight Systems have partnered to offer a complete ADS-B solution for business and commercial class aircraft. By combining the Becker Avionics BXT65XX series of Mode S transponders with FreeFlight Systems 1203C SBAS/GNSS sensor and RANGR-RX ADS-B Receiver, these remote-mounted solutions will provide turboprop and turbojet business aircraft a way to equip with ADS-B In and Out for the upcoming Jan. 1, 2020, mandate.
FLIGHTSTAR CORP. announced the upcoming completion of an STC for Wi-Fi activation when using the Gogo AVANCE L5 platform. The company also announces the upcoming completion of its latest STC for the Bombardier Learjet 40 and Learjet 45 series of aircraft.
COMLUX Completion was awarded the cabin outfitting contract of the first BBJ MAX 8 aircraft for an undisclosed customer.

ROCKWELL COLLINS introduced new support tools that enable business aviation operators using Jet ConneX high-speed internet from Inmarsat to optimize the end-to-end management of the service. Rockwell Collins also unveiled new Wi-Fi integration capability for business aviation; integration of company's Cabin Electronic System and Airborne Data Router provides Wi-Fi connections. Rockwell Collins also announced that its Venue high-definition cabin management and entertainment system has reached 1,000 installations. Rockwell Collins' Stage content service for business aircraft will soon feature a wider selection of high-definition movie and TV episodes due to an exclusive agreement the company has signed with West Entertainment LLC. Rockwell Collins announced a new variant of its TDR-94/94D Mode S Transponder to help aircraft owners meet the rapidly approaching ADS-B Out mandate by the end of 2019.
ACR ELECTRONICS confirmed that Drew Marine UK Holdings Ltd. signed an agreement to acquire SKYTRAC, a full-service, data-driven solutions provider for the global aviation industry. SKYTRAC will report into ACR Electronics Inc.
CMD FLIGHT SOLUTIONS announced the installation of its 430th ADS-B Out solution. The company also received FAA approval on three additional aircraft: the SAAB 340A and 340B using the TDR-94/D ADS-B Out solution and the Citation 680 using the H/W Primus II Radio Suite ADS-B Out AML STC.
