Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership is organizing a Workshop on Green Infrastructure for Coastal Resilience with NOAA on Friday Nov. 17. This full-day NOAA-led training will introduce fundamental green infrastructure concepts and practices that can play a critical role in making New Jersey's coastal and inland communities more resilient to natural hazards.

Damon Rich , urban planner at Hector Design Service and designer of the Community Engagement Committee's CSO signage , has been named a 2017 MacArthur Fellow by the MacArthur Foundation , which described him as "a designer and urban planner creating vivid and witty strategies to help residents exercise power within the public and private processes that shape our cities."

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a grant to Cooper's Ferry Partnership under the Environmental Justice Small Grant, totaling $30,000 . Proposed project activities include: planting of three tree groves and two community tours of aquatic habitats benefitting from green infrastructure and riparian restoration efforts.  The project will accelerate the restoration of local water systems by planting and expanding forests along urban waterways and connecting both adult and youth residents to water-related health activities in the local area.

NJ DEP has released the New Jersey State Water Supply Plan 2017-2022 . This update constitutes the second complete revision of the plan. The goal of this document is to form the foundation of a "living" resource able to be updated on a continuous basis as reliable new data become available, and improved upon as new scientific methods are identified.

Howard Neukrug , professor at the University of Pennsylvania, is profiled in this OMNIA article for his work on water resources and infrastructure.
"While we re-build our aging urban water systems, we must work together to ensure an integrative, sustainable, and resilient approach that includes the needs and priorities of our cities and citizens. It is not just about floods and water scarcity; it is equally about environmental justice, social equity, and other critical quality-of-life issues."

National Association of Clean Water Agencies held a private meeting with senior White House officials to discuss the contours of the administration's planned infrastructure package, including opportunities for public clean water utilities. Administration officials confirmed during the meeting that their intent is to make federal funds available to entities - including public clean water utilities - that come to the table with a proposed project and some level of funding for the project already identified.

New Resources 

Peak Day Water Demand Management Study . This study , commissioned by the Alliance for Water Efficiency, conducts a peak water demand shaving pilot project. The report is intended to serve as a resource for professionals in the water and irrigation industries to learn from a low-cost, customer-oriented approach to reducing peak water demand.

Additional Data and Statistical Analysis May Enhance EPA's Oversight of the Lead and Copper Rule
. As part of this report, the U.S. Government Accountability Office makes three recommendations to enhance the US EPA's oversight of the lead rule, including for the EPA to require states to report data on lead pipes and develop a statistical analysis on the likelihood of LCR violations, both as ways to supplement the EPA's current oversight. The EPA agreed with GAO's recommendations.

Wet Weather Flow Treatment and Disinfection Demonstration Project Report . The focus of this report from NJ DEP is to demonstrate the performance of selected technologies to treat for solids removal and disinfection under field conditions at remote end of pipe locations.  

NJ Stormwater BMP Manual Chapter 9.8 - Blue Roofs . This new chapter in NJ DEP's NJ Stormwater BMP Manual clarifies design requirements, explains functionality, and illustrates the movement of stormwater through a particular BMP, and includes new graphics, enhanced tables, simplified charts, and improved examples.

Esri has compiled a unique resource of maps and apps for green infrastructure planning: Building Green Infrastructure in the US - A Framework for Sustainable Growth . This resource provides tools and technologies for individuals working with green infrastructure to connect landscapes, support native species and ecological processes, protect cultural resources, and promote cooperation among landowners.

The Delta Institute has released an update to Green Infrastructure Designs: Scalable Solutions to Local Challenges in light of the devastation from hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The update adds two new green infrastructure designs to the original 2015 toolkit that explain how best to proactively manage flooding and stormwater.
