The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) announces two new online training programs for safety sales and marketing professionals. The new courses are part of ISEA's strategic initiative to provide quality professional development programs to broaden knowledge and competency in occupational health and safety.


ISEA's online resource on safety equipment for storm cleanup focuses on proper use and selection of safety equipment and worker safety.

"We developed some of the world's first true anti-vibration gloves more than two decades 
ago," said Tom Votel, president & CEO, Ergodyne. "This update builds on that heritage with 
three completely redesigned ANSI/ISO-certified models featuring AVC technology."


National Safety Apparel has been growing rapidly in recent years, making acquisitions 
and adding on products. And it doesn't show signs of slowing down any time soon.


The Challenge seeks to encourage firefighter fitness and demonstrate the profession's 
rigors to the public. 


Grainger announced that it was awarded a follow-on Schedule 51V contract by the 
General Services Administration (GSA), which will enable Grainger to continue doing 
business with Federal government customers.


Motion Industries Inc. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire 
Apache Inc., headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Washington Update 

 
The Contractor Accountability and Workplace Safety Act would require the Department of 
Defense to vet contractors who bid on contracts (or seek renewal of contracts) of $1 million 
or more for past labor-law violations. Sen. Diane Warren (D-MA) introduced a  similar bill in 
June.

 
The silica rule is one of the most comprehensive health standards ever issued for the 
construction industry and significantly reduces the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) for 
crystalline silica.

 
Mayor Bill DeBlasio signed into law controversial legislation that revises the city's building 
code to require that construction workers undergo a minimum of 40 hours of Occupational 
Safety and Health Administration-approved safety training before working on a job.

New NIOSH Center to Focus on Robot Safety
 
The hazards involved in this type of collaboration are not well understood, says NIOSH 
director John Howard, MD. "Not only is this a new field of study for safety and health 
professionals, [but] little guidance or policy exists regarding the safe integration of robots 
into the workplace." Howard says the new center will provide the scientific leadership to 
ensure that human workers are protected.
