November Beginning Farmer News Update

We can tell the colder weather has set in when farminars begin. Last week we started the Fall Farminar season with Jill Beebout presenting on Growing in High Tunnels: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. You can catch the newest farminar each Tuesday evening at 7pm until December 20th. Then we will start up the winter farminar series after the New Year. On November 29 we have a special farminar to help beginning farmers as they start to plan for taxes. Join Matt Russell and Kristine Tidgren as they present on "Tax Preparation for Your Farm". Don't worry if you miss one you can always check out the farminar archives to watch at another time.

If you haven't taken a moment to complete our beginning farmer survey we want to hear from you. Please take a few minutes to answer this  quick survey. We create these events and workshops with the feedback you've provided. What will help you start the farm of your dreams? 2016 Boots on the Ground Award
Jordan Scheibel of Savings Incentive Class of 2013 has been selected for the 2016 Boots on the Ground Award which celebrates an outstanding beginning farmer in Eastern Iowa. Jordan operates Middle Way Farm near Grinnell, Iowa. His produce is available to customers through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares and other direct markets. Jordan says he "believes in growing better, not bigger. The two-acre farm is intentionally small so that the focus can be caring for the land, quality, serving customers, and working smarter, not harder, while enjoying a good quality of life." Please join us as we celebrate this honor to Jordan.
