Our neighbors in the Northern SF Bay area region experienced unimaginable devastation as a series of wildfires swept through portions of Napa and Sonoma Counties earlier this month. Lives were lost, and thousands of homes and businesses were incinerated in the conflagration. The wine industry, a major industry in these counties, was affected as vineyards and wineries were lost or badly damaged by smoke and fire. Authorities are still taking an account of the economic impacts of the fires. The Livermore Valley community and businesses activated fundraising and donation activities to support their neighbors (some are noted in this newsletter). I reached out to our sister Chambers of Commerce with offers of support and to request guidance on the best way to deliver immediate aid to their communities. Re-housing of thousands of residents is the highest priority. Businesses cannot afford to lose workers as all hands will be needed to rebuild the economy and absorb the impacts of services and products needed to restore local communities.
