Christmas Through the Eyes of Those Who Were There
By: Mr. Huckabone, SCCS Administrator

Around this time of the year I hear so many people comment about having reached their fill of holiday festivities Everyone has something that makes Christmas meaningful to them. There are the lights, the traditions, music, Christmas trees, angels, and the manger. As with anything in life every person sees Christmas through their own lens. This has probably been a fact since that very first Christmas in Bethlehem many years ago. What people do with Jesus born in that manger seems to still be a central point of Christmas.

Christmas through the eyes of a young couple just starting out in life could find wrapping their minds around the idea of God being central to their lives in a powerful meaningful way, as overwhelming and a little fearful. Wondering if they will we meet up to God's expectations. Now add to that the discovery that your new family of two will soon be a family of three, the fact that the child is also going to be God in the flesh. I think for some of us we would be ready to give up, but not that couple whom God knew could take on this magnificent task. Instead of Mary asking the Lord for time to think it out, she responded with "Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word." (Luke 1:38). Joseph likewise showed his trust in God's plan through his direct obedience to God's command (Matt 1:24-25). Click to read more.

Please help us spread the word. We had a record turn-out for our Fall Kindergarten Preview Day. The incoming Kindergarten class of 2017 is filling up fast! Registration for the 2017-18 school year opens for new enrolling families on January 30, 2017.
From NEXUS to AXIS
Every year SCCS sets aside a week for NEXUS. NEXUS is a weeklong event when students in 7-12th grades set aside classes for a couple hours each day and focus on worshipping God, hearing His Word, and stirring one another toward love and good deeds. This year, however, on February 15th, students are in for a bit of a surprise. The goal will be the same, but the time and intensity will be ramped up a bit. We have packed a week of worship and learning into one day of high-impact training with a team from AXIS. Then, that same evening at 6:30 pm, all parents are invited to join a presentation and Q & A with the speakers. Click here to learn more.
SCCS Hosts Tip-Off Tournament
On Thursday, December 1st, eight teams played during the SCCS hosted Tip-Off Basketball Tournament. The teams who competed this year included: SCCS, Albert Einstein, Grace Brethren, Villanova Prep, Providence (Santa Barbara), Fresno Christian, Desert Christian and Orcutt Academy. "These schools make this part of their season," said SCCS Athletic Director Ali Aguilar. The Tip-Off Tournament serves as a way for SCCS to share the gospel to non-Christian schools and provides an opportunity for teams that don't normally get to play together to compete in non-league games while kicking off their basketball season. This year SCCS won the tournament.
