2016
BET THE FARM COMPETITION
|
Rocky Mountain BEST hosted 28 Teams with 464 students over 6 weeks in September and October. The middle and high school teams were primarily from the Denver metro area with one school traveling 6 hours from Montrose.
You, our
volunteers and sponsors, are the reason we were able to bring a hands-on engineering competition
at no cost to the schools.
Last month we recognized our volunteers, this month we are recognizing our sponsors.
WE WERE SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE OF YOU!
We'd love to have your organization as a sponsor in 2017!
|
YOU MADE AN IMPACT -
YOU ARE THE BEST!
|
With your donations and volunteer support,
...we were able to repair, replace, buy and assemble all the items to PROVIDE the 28 school teams the ROBOTICS KITS used to build their robots - AT NO COST to the schools,
... we were able to TRAIN over a dozen teachers and mentors at our July Teacher / Mentor Institute to prepare them to coach their teams.
... we were able to build a 4 quadrant competition GAME FIELD,
... we were able to provide REFRESHMENTS for all of our 115 volunteers at each event and
provide a pizza snack for over 450 students on game day,
..we were able to purchase the TROPHIES and MEDALLIONS for our award wining teams,
...AND we were able to do all the other activities required to hold a successful competition!!

BEST Outreach - Colorado Science Conferen
ce
Introducing Colorado Science Teachers to BEST
Rocky Mountain and Front Range BEST participated in an Outreach event with Colorado Association of Science Teachers on 18 November.
It was a cold day in November, but inside the Denver Merchandise Mart the Colorado science teachers, the session presenters, and the exhibitors were on fire! The attending teachers were clearly dedicated to their students and content. We met a number of teachers interested in joining BEST, and for those teachers located closer to Golden Plains BEST and Pikes Peak BEST hubs, we will forward their interest to those Colorado organizations.
Please let interested teachers know they can sign up early in 2017 for the fall competition; we register First Come, First Served. Get on
the list to receive the Rocky Mtn BEST 2017 competition announcement via
http://www.rockymountainbest.org/teams/signup/
.
The 2017 game teaser will be announced on the national website in early December and student bESTology web based activities starts in J
anuary!
The Outreach Table focused on the last two game themes: Bet the Farm and Pay Dirt. Supporting the BEST conference table were volunteers: Tami Kirkland, Lori Lazuk, Lois Walton and Carolyn Bauer. The DSST Byers 2015 Illuminati Robot was driven and made the rounds up and down the aisle. We
encouraged people to take a souvenir: a piece of coal, little pigs, and pig erasers. The
souvenirs made an impression especially when we were able to point out the s
coring posters for both games. You can get your own souvenir by attending our 2017 Boosting BEST fundraiser. More to come in future newsletters about our annual fundraiser.
The Colorado Hubs will speak to other vendors to work together on STEM education, fundraising, and many more possibilities.
WOW! Our planning for 2017 has begun!!
