It's Back to School Time!!!
First, we would like to report that none of the children in the ICC at Newton or Fatima House were affected by the floods or mudslide. In the past, there were problems with flooding at the Newton facility, but recent improvements to the drainage system have corrected that problem.
At Newton, the children had three weeks of Summer School classes, and program manager James Nyamawa reports that summer school was very successful and "has motivated and given the children zeal for the next academic year."
At the end of August, the children received the results from their school exams, and we are very proud that most of the kids did receive scores that allow them to advance to the next class. Pictured above left is Sulmatu Sesay who has been promoted to Class I. Extra care will be given to those who need special attention to improve their scores.
School resumed in Sierra Leone in mid-September. We wish all our children the best during this school year, and we will ensure that they have all the resources to succeed!
