St. Pius X / St. Leo School Newsletter September 21, 2017
SMART GIRL SOCIETY

On Monday, September 25, Amie Konwinski, the founder and CEO of Smart Girl Society, will be at St. Leo Church discussing how to remain safe on social media and how to help our students avoid becoming targets of harassment online. The administration is highly recommending a parent from each household who has children in grades 3 to 8 to attend, but all parents are invited to attend the free seminar. The hope is the seminar will empower and educate our families on our student's technology and social media usage. In order to encourage parents to attend, the administration will give the students of the parents who attend the seminar a free dress down day. The free dress down day is scheduled for Friday, October 13th. For more information on the Smart Girl Society, click here.

BIRTHDAY TREATS

Students may bring treats to celebrate their birthdays with their classmates. We ask that parents talk with the teacher about what is appropriate for treats. Please remember the time restraints and learning environment of the classrooms. Also, please do not send pop for birthday treats, because we do not allow pop in the classrooms or cafeteria.
Parents, did you know you can check PowerSchool for grades for children in Grades 3-8.
NEBRASKA TELEPHONE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
The Nebraska Telephone Assistance Program (NTAP) assists qualifying low-income individuals with keeping telephone services affordable by lowering monthly service rates. Individuals can qualify for NTAP by participating in Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Children’s Health Insurance Programs (CHIP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Veterans Pension Benefit/Survivors Pension Benefit, Federal Public Housing, or if household income is at or below 135 percent of the poverty level.
SODA BREAD SALES

The Knights of Columbus from St. Leo and St. Pius X Parishes and the St. Pius X Men's Club baked and sold delicious soda bread for eight weeks during this past Lent. All proceeds from the sale of soda bread support tuition assistance. On February 7th they brought loaves of soda bread to SPSL School so that each student, staff and faculty member could receive a loaf and have an opportunity to make a donation. Because of their tremendous work making and selling the bread, a donation of $12,000 was made to SPSL School to support the tuition assistance efforts.
