Principal's Message
September 15, 2017
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
We have all heard the expression, "There is no place like home!" While we were extremely grateful to have a "home away from home," it was wonderful to be back on campus! Students and staff are settling into the routine. Pacing guides are being re-evaluated, and students are working hard. STREAM classes this week have focused on space, constellations, and more. Reading assessments are being completed that will provide more specific data to support individualized instruction. Saints athletic teams, girls' volleyball and co-ed soccer, have started their seasons.  Art project ideas are being tossed around in an effort to decide what to do for the county competition. All is well at OLQP!
At prayer, the topic of how God sometimes uses nature to get our attention was discussed. The Star of Bethlehem was one example given. Everyday people, during that time, were not paying attention to that unusual event and missed it. They were busy, as we often are, working and raising their families. But, the Magi - the Wise Men - were paying attention. What a gift they received! We, too, can look for God's message to us by paying attention to the signs of the times all the while trusting in His goodness and mercy.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

Select Choir
We are blessed again this year to have Director Eveline Nachtegaele working with the OLQP Select Choir. The choir sings at our feeder parishes, local nursing homes, and at various invitational events. The requirements for participation are: in 3 rd -8th  grade, being able to sing on key and the family commitment to attend both practices and events. If you would like your child to audition, please click here. Auditions are on Tuesday, September 26 at 1:30pm.

Parent Portal
This year we have adopted a new student information platform. Teachers and staff are working diligently to ensure that the program is accurate before we share with parents. Know that as soon as it is ready to launch, parents will receive the necessary log in information so that grades and homework assignments can be accessed. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience as teachers work to communicate with you to ensure that there are no surprises on the report card and to assist you with information about assignments. Students who have planners are to be writing assignments daily. Even after parents have access to the homework component, it is the students' responsibility to write their assignments daily. This is an important skill. Parents can support teachers by checking the planner and encouraging their children to complete this task as a step towards becoming independent. During this time of transition, be sure to stay in close contact with your children's teachers. Let us know how we can help.

Birthdays are Special!
Each week, those who are celebrating a birthday are recognized with a song and gifts. This year, recipients choose one of two wooden rosaries and receive a holy card depicting Our Lady of Fatima. Our friends at Crossings donated these gifts! Be sure to go by the store to see their beautiful products. If you see the Conboy/Chauvel family, tell them thank you!

Annual Food Drive
Each year, OLQP supports area food banks and local parishes' St. Vincent de Paul Societies in order to feed those in need. This year, the need is greater than ever due to the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. For more information and how you can help, click here
