Linda Thomson
President
Seven members of the North/South Core Work Group, a subcommittee of The Greater Cumberland Committee (TGCC), traveled to Washington, D.C. last week. These representatives of four states participated in fourteen meetings with members of the House and Senate from Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia to further the discussion for funding for twenty miles of US-219 in New York, the completion of US-219 in Pennsylvania to the Maryland state line, and the initiation of the Tier 2 Study for US-220 in Maryland and West Virginia.
The completion of US-219 from I-68 in Maryland to Somerset, Pennsylvania as a four-lane highway built to interstate standards was the focus of an unprecedented cooperative feasibility study agreed to by the DOT's of Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. JARI serves as a member of the North/South Highway Coalition.
