Principal's Message
November 11, 2016
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP,
There is always something special happening at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School. Walking in classrooms, a visitor can see amazing things happening! Pre-K students are practicing songs and finger plays in preparation for their Thanksgiving Day program. In lower elementary, one class spent the day engineering and creating catapults and bridges. Another class used a Brain Pop video to launch them into practical application of mixed numbers and improper fractions. In computer class, students worked collaboratively using Google Classroom to build a data bank on the Presidents and First Ladies of the United States. Watching the students work collaboratively to gather, manipulate, and report data was interesting as each group's dynamic and products were unique.
This week at prayer, one of the topics was reverence. It was noted that the flag of the United States is a symbol of our country, her freedoms, and the men and women who have served to protect her. During morning assembly, students were asked to stand if they had anyone in their families who had served in the U.S. Armed Forces. About half of our student body stood proudly. Many of those family members joined the OLQP community to celebrate the great gift of their service. The school was honored to have so many veterans join us. After the program, thank you notes were given to each active duty member and veteran present.
On November 11, 1918, at 11:00, WWI ended. At that time, it was known as the Great War - the war to end all wars. Today, at 11:00, the OLQP community paused to pray for peace. The children have been reminded that because of the freedoms secured by those who have gone before us, we still have the right to pray. Be assured, that at OLQP, the right to pray is exercised regularly. Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Internet Safety
As partners with parents, OLQP staff and administration are very interested in sharing information that can help keep students safe both physically and spiritually.  Access to the internet is a mixed blessing. No one will argue the benefits. It is the risks that cause all who care about children to be vigilant. Please use this link for more information.

This change came about because of your help. We have discovered a data recovery problem with ACS.

From Nurse Perdue, MS, RN
Students who bring their own snacks to school need to be aware that there may be students in class that have peanut allergies. Even items that appear to be peanut free are not because they are packaged in plants that process peanuts. Those items can cause a reaction in students nearby who have severe allergies. Parents and volunteers, too, should be aware that, before sending a treat or snack with students, to always check with the classroom teacher to ensure that there are no students in the particular class who have food sensitivities. Thank you!
