Principal's Message
November 4, 2016
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP,
"Instilling Knowledge, Inspiring Faith" is the motto of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School. As St. Thomas Aquinas noted, we are integrated people. Attempting to compartmentalize our lives into what we believe at home vs what we believe at work vs what we believe at school, is unnatural. God created us to be integrated beings- body and soul.
At OLQP, students recently researched their favorite saints in honor of All Saints Day. The research resulted in a presentation and a visual aid: cartoon strip, diorama, or informational poster. The students' work made a beautiful display in Hawthorne Hall. Reading, writing, research, creativity, and presentation skills all came together as students learned and shared information about these canonized holy men and women.
On All Saints Day, students processed through the school grounds dressed as saints. Fr. Victor Perez, from Most Holy Trinity, celebrated Mass with us on this great feast day. He encouraged the children to be saints. He reminded the children that the saints were people just like us in many ways. They grew in holiness just as we are called to do.
It is completely natural for the students at OLQP to read and write about their Catholic faith, about the history of Christianity, and share stories of heroic virtue from the lives of holy men and women. It is a blessing to be in a school where Faith is part of the curriculum. Teaching the whole child means honoring the notion that St. Thomas Aquinas taught centuries ago: we are integrated people.
Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

News You Can Use...
Safety First!
Have you noticed the traffic cones in the front row of the parking lot at the front entrance of the school?
Teachers working traffic duty saw two near misses. Parents parking had young children getting out of the car unattended while the car next to them was backing out. The little ones could have been hurt. If you need to park and walk in, please park off to the side or the back and help your little ones out of the car. Let's keep everyone safe.
Café News:
You should be receiving a weekly account update on Fridays. If you are not receiving it, please contact Mrs. Brewster at [email protected] with the preferred email address so we can update your contact information. Thank you!
Military Moms
It's that time of year! Military Moms are working on Christmas care packages for U.S. military stationed overseas. We have a short window of time to help them out. Items they are requesting are located here and here, and they also accept donations to help cover postage.
