Hello Ladies:

Did  you know that a child's personality is often developed by the age of 4 or 5? 1  That being said, I want you to go way back an d try to remember how money was presented to you in your childhood.  I will use myself as an example.

As far back as I can remember, we were never really educated about money . I do remember times getting silver dollars from my grandfather when we went to visit him and Vo, (that's grandmother in Portuguese), but then the silver dollar would be taken from us with a voice that said, "let me hold it for you so you don't lose it".  Then it just disappeared until a later date.

My question to you is this.  If you had a similar experience of receiving some form of money, did your parents use it to teach you about what "savings" meant, or did they just become the keeper of your new found asset?  This is an important question because it started the framework for what money was going to mean to you as you grew and got older.

I'm sure you have heard the phase: "You are your experiences".  Whatever they may have been they have helped mold you into the person you are today.  So, for this month's article tell me about your belief system when it comes to money.
  • How did you teach your children about money if you had children?  Was it how you were taught?
  • Do you see money as the root to all things evil, or do you find a lot of good in it?  Do you find money as just something to worry about?  Does it control you or do you control it?
All these questions are relevant and need to be addressed because they affect the way you live NOW and how you'll live in RETIREMENT.

Let's talk, send me your answers.  I will tell you some of the findings over the next couple of weeks and develop a way to possibly help you change your approach to money so you feel more in control with it.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Elizabeth
