Hello, and welcome to the November parent and family newsletter!

Election Day
November brings the Presidential Election on Nov. 8. Students will need to have a picture ID to vote. A WI drivers' license, WI DOT-issued ID, military ID or U.S. Passport will work for this. If they don't have any of these, students may go to Titan Central in Reeve Union to get a free Voter ID Card. They will need to bring their UW Oshkosh Titancard to get their Voter ID card (NOTE: their Titancard doesn't work for voting). The official website for Wisconsin voting information is: myvote.wi.gov. This website provides a variety of information, including where to vote, what's on the ballot, how to register to vote and more.

Financial Aid for the 2017-18 School Year
Just a reminder to complete the 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to Dec. 20, 2016.  If you would like additional information, feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office.

Academic information
Most first-year students will register for spring semester in November. Students who have not yet made their advising appointment should do so as soon as possible with the Undergraduate Advising Resource Center (UARC)

They can either call (920) 424-1268 or stop by their office in the Student Success Center, Suite 202, to make an appointment.

If your student delayed in making an appointment and now cannot get one before their registration date, they are encouraged to work with a   Peer Advising Liaison (PAL). A PAL is a highly trained upper class student who can help them learn to read their Student Academic Report (STAR) and use TitanWeb to select some initial courses so they can register on time. Changes can be made after their advising appointment if needed.

Students should prepare for their advising appointment by reviewing their STAR and available courses in TitanWeb, making a list of questions for their advisor, and gathering a list of courses they would like to take. These tasks will help them complete the Pre-Advising Worksheet they are sent and asked to bring to their appointment.

First-year students will enroll in a QUEST II course for spring along with either Writing or Speaking, whichever they still need.

If your student isn't signed up for a January interim class, they should also talk with their advisor about this possibility. Interim is part of the fall semester and it is a three-week period where students take a class for three hours a day for three weeks. This year's dates are  Jan. 3 - Jan. 20 .  If your student takes 12-18 credits a semester, there isn't an extra charge to take an interim class. There also isn't an extra charge for their residence hall room or meal plan. The only cost would be any required textbook(s). It's a great way to earn credits without the extra cost.

Career Closet
Career Services has a great resource called the Career Closet . They provide free professional clothing -- students are allowed to choose up to four items from the closet per semester to keep and use for interviews or work.

They accept donations of new or slightly used professional clothing. If you live in the area and would like to donate some items, contact their office at (920) 424-2181.

Titan Dollars
Titan Dollars is money that is deposited on a student's I.D. card (TitanCard). It is a declining balance (debit) card used exclusively for on campus purchases. It can be used for food, event tickets, vending, laundry, apparel, school supplies, postal services, etc. Students who live in the residence halls already have Titan Dollars on their card through their housing contract and meal plan. However, anyone may add Titan Dollars to their card at any time. It's convenient, each to use and much safer than cash. They also save 5% on all food purchases. If a student loses their TitanCard, they can contact Titan Central to stop the use of their card -- you can't do that if you lose cash!

If you'd like to deposit funds onto your student's TitanCard,  click here and choose "Guest Deposits." You will need your student's I.D. number to make a deposit. Questions? Contact Titan Central at (920) 424-1234.
