GAMA Releases 2012 Year-End Report
On Tuesday, Feb. 12, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association released its 2012 year-end report on shipments of general aviation airplanes. GAMA also expanded the data to include delivery data for helicopter manufacturers.

"While the 2012 shipment and billing data were mixed, the numbers don't reflect the amount of development work in progress in general aviation," said Brad Mottier, 2013 GAMA chairman. "The general aviation segment is poised for resurgence in the next few years as these new technologies certify and enter the market." More...

Is Your Repair Station Impacted by the Ban on Foreign Repair Station Certificates?

In cooperation with the Aeronautical Repair Station Association (ARSA), the AEA is joining ARSA to launch a new survey to measure the impact of the ban on new foreign repair station certificates.

Congress prohibited the FAA from acting on foreign repair station certificate applications submitted after Aug. 3, 2008, because the Transportation Security Administration had not finalized repair station security rules. The ban is an unprecedented example of punishing industry for a federal agency's inaction. U.S. aviation companies are barred from tapping into rapidly expanding overseas markets, which is hindering job creation and growth at home.

"ARSA members are paying the price for bureaucratic foot-dragging and a poorly thought-out policy," said Daniel Fisher, ARSA vice president of legislative affairs.

The latest ARSA survey is a follow up to one conducted in fall 2011. That survey found that the prohibition was hurting small to medium sized businesses in the U.S., preventing growth and costing American companies millions of dollars in lost revenues. The AEA is coordinating with ARSA to encourage AEA members to complete the survey. The data will be shared with policymakers as part of the ongoing lobbying campaign to lift the ban.

All repair stations impacted by the prohibition are encouraged to participate. To complete the brief survey, please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FHJNP2B.

Vote Online Before February 18!
The members of the AEA Trusteeship Committee have presented a slate of nominees for election to the AEA board of directors for the three-year term of April 2013 to April 2016.

There are nine candidates seeking six open director positions. However, two of the six seats will be filled by incumbents running unopposed: Garry Joyce of IAE Ltd. is unopposed for the Europe seat, and Michael Kus of Avionics 2000 is unopposed for the South Pacific seat. The seat representing Canada is currently filled and not up for election this term.

Therefore, there are seven candidates seeking four open seats in the general election.

Pursuant to AEA bylaws, each AEA member company is allowed to cast one ballot!
