 AEA East Connect Conference in Jacksonville Canceled
Due to the destruction throughout Florida caused by Hurricane Irma, the Aircraft Electronics Association has canceled the AEA East Connect Conference scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 18-19, in Jacksonville, Florida. The AEA is working to reschedule the conference for later this year. It is the first time in 60 years of AEA history that the association has canceled an event due to a natural disaster.
According to the hotel's website, "Hotel operations are currently impacted by Hurricane Irma passing through the area. Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront is waiving all cancellation charges and refunding all deposits for stays during this period. Please contact 1-800-323-7249 with any questions about upcoming reservations, as storms may be affecting hotel communications.

 Bloomberg Reports that Republicans want FAA Extension
According to an analysis published by
Bloomberg, "House and Senate Republican leaders are waiting--some begrudgingly--on House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) to advance a bill to reauthorize or extend FAA authorization, which expires Sept. 30. The House FAA reauthorization bill (H.R. 2997) approved by the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee remains mired in a debate over Shuster's push to spin off air traffic control into a non-governmental entity. Several Republicans doubt Shuster has the votes to pass his bill and are now calling for a six-month or one-year extension of the agency, they told
Bloomberg BNA."

 Monday, Sept. 18, is Last Day to Reserve FAA's $500 ADS-B Rebate
The last day for eligible aircraft owners to reserve one of the Federal Aviation Administration's $500 rebates for ADS-B Out compliance is Monday, Sept. 18, 2017. The FAA is offering a $500 rebate to help owners of single-engine, piston aircraft equip now with the required avionics. Although the last day to make a reservation is Sept. 18, eligible aircraft owners who make a reservation by the deadline will still have time to complete the remaining steps in the process to receive the rebate check.
Starting Jan. 1, 2020, aircraft must be equipped with ADS-B Out to fly in most controlled airspace. Federal Regulations 14 CFR 91.225 and 14 CFR 91.227 contain the details. Eligible aircraft are defined as U.S.-registered, fixed-wing, single-engine piston aircraft whose operation requires an onboard pilot, first registered before Jan 1, 2016.

Can Safety-sensitive Employees Start Right Away?
The Department of Transportation requires employers to have a two-year drug and alcohol history check on file for all new safety-sensitive employees. However, you have a 30-day grace period to obtain and review this information.
Sometimes, it is not always feasible to complete the two-Year drug and alcohol history check for an employee prior to performing safety-sensitive functions. If this is the case, the DOT regulations (
49 CFR Part 40.25d
) allow 30 days from the date the employee first performed a safety-sensitive function to obtain this information, or show documentation of a good faith attempt.
If neither of these actions are done, the employer must remove their employee from performing any safety-sensitive functions.

UNIVERSAL AVIONICS SYSTEMS CORP.
Software Version SCN 31.1 for the UniLink UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit received FAA Technical Standard Order. The software upgrade provides an optional configuration for Aeronautical Telecommunications Network Baseline 1 Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications and Context Management functions required for the European mandate, formerly known as Link 2000+. Aircraft operating in European airspace must be equipped for ATN B1 CPDLC by Feb. 5, 2020. In addition, following FAA TSO authorization for InSight, Universal Avionics announced FAA Supplemental Type Certification for the new display system installed on the Cessna Citation VII aircraft.

 BULLER ENTERPRISES recently made a trip to IAE LTD. in Cranfield, England, to train the repair station's staff on the capabilities available with the Panel Pro. LARRY BULLER detailed the product, which is a computer-controlled router optimized for aluminum sheet metal 1/8-inch thick. It is at home in avionics shops, completion centers, or anywhere complex routing is required. It is efficient for cutting one part or a hundred.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. announced that its worldwide fleet of G280 aircraft recently eclipsed 100,000 flight hours, a milestone achieved less than five years after the first model entered service. The company also announced that the final aircraft in the Gulfstream G600 flight-test program has flown for the first time. The aircraft is the fifth to join the G600 flight-test program since it began on Dec. 17, 2016.
GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION received STC and PMA on the 4G dual-directional antennas, which will be used with the Gogo AVANCE L5 system (formerly known as the Gogo Biz 4G LRU). Gogo's 4G service, which will operate using the Gogo Biz 4G network, will by flying soon, and system installations have already begun.
COBHAM AVCOMM announced its ISO 9001 standard certification from ISO 9001:2008 to the newly revised standard ISO 9001:2015. ISO 9001 is the world's most widely recognized quality management standard.
SCANDINAVIAN AVIONICS A/S in Denmark completed a purchase with LATITUDE TECHNOLOGIES CORP. for four S200/RC6000A systems for installation into Dornier 228 aircraft. In addition, Scandinavian Avionics Design developed the EASA-approved STC for this purpose. All STCs from Scandinavian Avionics Design -- member of the SA Group -- are available for purchase to other qualified customers.
DUNCAN AVIATION is ready to install on Citation Sovereign aircraft the FAA-approved Transitional Winglet from Winglet Technology LLC. After delivering an industry-first earlier this summer, a second winglet installation is scheduled to begin in mid-September. Duncan also named SUSIE CORN to the turbine engine service sales team. Duncan also announced that earlier this year its satellite avionics shop in Cincinnati, Ohio, performed a first-time Duncan Aviation installation by upgrading the Rockwell Collins TDR-94D transponders on a King Air 350i, bringing the aircraft into compliance with the FAA's mandate for ADS-B Out. In addition, Duncan Aviation began construction on a new business aircraft maintenance, modifications and paint complex at its Provo, Utah, location. The company's satellite facilities in Van Nuys and Scottsdale also earned certification from Mexico's Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil.
EDMO DISTRIBUTORS announced its new warehouse expansion that will be located in Nashville, Tennessee. According to the company, customers in the Midwest, Southeast and Northeast can now expect the same quality products with the same personalized service but now with enhanced delivery times: two-day ground shipping for most of the continental U.S.
ROCKWELL COLLINS and United Technologies Corp. reached a definitive agreement under which United Technologies will acquire Rockwell Collins for $140 per share, in cash and UTC stock. Upon completion of the transaction, Rockwell Collins and UTC Aerospace Systems will be integrated to create a new business unit named Collins Aerospace Systems. Rockwell Collins also
partnered with Black & Veatch to successfully demonstrate
a beyond visual line of sight unmanned aerial systems flight along almost 10 miles of power line infrastructure owned by Ameren Corp., located near Newton, Illinois. Rockwell Collins also named eight engineers to the fourth annual class of Rockwell Collins Fellows.
CONSTANT AVIATION announced that it has more than doubled its
ADS-B sales since this time last year, noting that 26 percent of the increase is from new customers. The company also announced the successful delivery of its second Challenger 300 Mid Life 7500-cycle inspection, and it will host a career fair in the St. Louis area, Sept. 21-22.
RECTRIX MRO is now an authorized dealer for Rockwell Collins.
AVMAX purchased two Dash 8-Q402 aircraft msn 4010 and 4036 from Aircraft Solutions Lux XI Sarl. Avmax currently owns 58 Dash 8s. It also purchased one Bombardier CRJ-200ER MSN 7508 from Altitude 35 Ltd., Bermuda. Avmax also has taken delivery of the first six aircraft of a 27 Dash 8-100 aircraft purchase deal from Piedmont Airlines Inc., a subsidiary to American Airlines, with delivery stream through the first quarter of 2018.
FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL received orders for flight simulators from Aeroméxico Connect, SF Airlines of China and S7 Airlines of Russia.
NAVWORX announced it is now shipping its ADS600-B 2.0 System for installations in experimental aircraft only. The first aircraft are now flying.
VIH AEROSPACE was selected to develop and install three STC Night Vision system installations for Helijet International Inc.
SATCOM DIRECT become the first service provider to activate the Inmarsat Jet ConneX technology for a Brazilian-registered executive aircraft. The privately owned Gulfstream G650, based in São Paulo, will begin using the service in September.
SoCal JETS announced that the first Universal Insight installation performed by an independent MRO will be installed in a Citation VII in December 2017 at the company's facility in Van Nuys, California.
VECTOR AEROSPACE recently hosted a Texas Trade Mission round-table discussion at its Grapevine, Texas, facility involving participants from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, local businesses and media.
ESTERLINE signed a contract with Thales Australia. Esterline will supply Thales with rugged displays and servers to be installed in the Hawkei Protected Mobility vehicles. Esterline also released a new version of its Thin eXtreme Display series.
WESTERN AIRCRAFT hired veteran avionics specialist MIKE TURNER as an avionics sales account manager.
CLAY LACY AVIATION helped raise $24,000 for homeless students in Orange County at the second annual FLOCK Dinner Gala, Aug. 19. The company donated flights aboard its fleet of business jets during a live auction at the event. The company also announced a limited-time $30,000 savings to Gulfstream and Challenger owners who upgrade to FANS 1/A+ with ADS-B Out with a Clay Lacy STC.
FLYING COLOURS CORP. recently redelivered a matching pair of Bombardier Challenger 850 aircraft for an undisclosed Fortune 500 company.
