Message from the CEO: No more flying blind

The newly released report   Flying Blind: Australian Consumers and Digital Health challenges us to re-think the way the health system works. As consumers navigate a confusing, fragmented world of healthcare, it presents an urgent call to action for the nation.  Produced by the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre in Canberra, it says the positioning of consumers as owners of their health data must be entrenched if we are to unlock data from silos. And it promotes a lightly engineered, iterative approach to deliver immediate benefits, avoiding costly mistakes and dead-ends. What's the light at the end of the tunnel? Consistent and targeted, real-time, personalised healthcare for all Australians as well as improved evidence-based systems planning and management and research.
If you haven't already done so, take a moment to review this powerful first instalment in a series which looks to offer a great deal to the national conversation about changing the way we deliver healthcare.  Along with other reading and resources, you can find the report on HISA's Innovating Health initiative.

A shout out to Dr Annie Lau from Macquarie University who has been awarded one of the inaugural Women in Research Citation Awards for her work in the field of health informatics - congratulations!

Dr Louise Schaper, PhD CHIA FACHI
