Iowa STEM Professional Development- Palooza

In  2016, the Iowa Governor's STEM Council solicited proposals from professional developers across the state who could help support educators trending toward STEM. As a result of this action, K-12 educators and administrators from around the state gathered for the Iowa STEM Professional Development (PD)-Palooza held at the Waukee Innovative Learning Center from July 17 - 21. Twenty-three participants were informed of best practices in professional development opportunities in STEM while gaining cutting-edge knowledge from these experts.

During one of the sessions, Kris Kilbarta, State Science Supervisor for the Iowa Department of Education, provided information on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as well as the Iowa Science Standards. Kris spoke about the three dimensions of science learning within the NGS Standards: the science and engineering practice, crosscutting concepts and disciplinary core ideas.

STEM Scale-Up Professional Development Begin

Thousands of Iowa educators are gearing up to bring STEM education to their students this fall.  The 2017-18 Scale-Up programmers have fanned out across the state to quip and train in-school and out-of-school teachers in the attests and greatest STEM learning platforms.  Seventy-eight different workshops across Iowa's six SEM regions spanning the next four moths will prepare nearly 2000 new members of Iowa's STEM community to start the imaginations of youth.

In the NC STEM Region, over 300 educators will be able to share their expanded STEM knowledge with youth.
