St. Pius X / St. Leo School Newsletter September 8, 2017
ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER

Today we send the first electronic newsletter from St. Pius X / St. Leo School for this school year!

In the newsletter, we will continue to share information about school activities, volunteer opportunities and fundraising events. We will also link to important dates included on the school's website for you and your children to remember.

We encourage you to read the entire newsletter. It is the main form of communication between the school and parents about what is happening at SPSL.
(August 30, 2017 first school Mass)
St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others.
STANDARDIZED TESTING

The TerraNova, Third Edition, and corresponding cognitive abilities test, InView, will be administered to all students in grades 3 through 8 between September 25 and October 5, 2017. Results will be available after all Archdiocesan schools submit the tests for scoring.

This standardized test, used in conjunction with the Archdiocesan Assessments administered at every grade level from one to twelve, form a balanced assessment plan for our students and all students in the Archdiocesan schools. The goal of this plan is to improve student learning across the curriculum.

Please contact the school if you have any questions (402) 551-6667.
RACE FOR EDUCATION

A huge thank you to all students, parents and volunteers who participated in the 13th annual Race for Education held last spring. It was a fun-filled day that included walking, running, snow cones and special guests from local college athletes.

SPSL finished the race with GREAT results earning over $46,900 after expenses!
ONE VISION

The public phase of the campaign for St. Pius X / St. Leo School, St. Pius X Parish and St. Leo the Great Parish will kick-off the weekend of Sept. 9th and 10th. This campaign follows a planning study that showed wide support for a campaign for the school and the two parishes. The Steier Group has been hired to manage the campaign for us and we have been working with them the past several months preparing for its launc h.

VISITORS AND VOLUNTEERS

Please remember that visitors and volunteers must check into the school office. We ask that you sign your name in our log book and wear a name tag inside the school. The name tag shows faculty, staff and students that you are authorized to be in the building. If you volunteer for lunch duty, you may check into the cafeteria where you will receive a name tag. Thank you.
Did you know that the school website has links for your child's classroom? There are also homework blogs for Grades 4 to 8.
SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING
As you know from our family handbook, all of our employees and any volunteers who have one-on-one contact and are alone with children in the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese or programs sponsored by the parishes must receive training to provide a safe environment for our students.

The Archdiocese of Omaha requires all priests, deacons, staff and volunteers attend Safe Environment Training. Sessions are scheduled at parishes, deaneries and schools. Sessions run approximately two and a half hours. Safe Environment Certification includes a background check and is valid for five years.

  • Fever of 100 degrees or higher (A child should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school.
  • Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea - Keep you child home for the duration of these symptoms.
  • Nasal secretions and coughing/sneezing

SFH Heart

STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART

Straight from the Heart would like to thank those families who contributed to the program for their kindness and generosity. The is a parent sponsored program that provides the opportunity to show their appreciation to the faculty and staff by providing treats. We send our thanks to the families who provided monetary donations to Straight from the Heart.
PARKING LOT DO'S/DON'TS

St. Pius X / St. Leo School's enrollment is a big school. We need your help to keep the school and your children safe. EVERY child’s safety is important to us. It remains our highest priority to ensure that students enter and exit cars in a safe and organized way. We ask everyone to correctly follow our pick-up and drop-off procedures. Failure to do so creates chaos, frustration and unsafe conditions. Each family should discuss these procedures. Thank you for your continuing support in making SPSL school a safe and productive environment for all.

Thank you for your cooperation.
PAW
PANTHER AWARD WINNING STUDENTS (P.A.W.S.)

Congratulations to those students who earned P.A.W.S. during the last few months of the 2016-2017 school year.
INFORMATION SHARING

Occasionally St. Pius X and St. Leo Parishes may request information about our school families (such as name, address, phone number, cell phone number, special needs of the family, etc.). Because we are a two-parish school with St. Pius X Church and St. Leo Church being our major supporters, we will share this information unless you request that we do not. If you do not want your information shared with St. Pius X and/or St. Leo Parishes, please call the school office by Friday, September 15, 2017.
