Principal's Message
October 21, 2016
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP,
Each year, the community comes together at the Fall Festival to support Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School. The festival is a wonderful time to visit with friends, old and new, while supporting a great cause.
It is amazing to see the effort, love, and commitment that are demonstrated year after year. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes: purchasing the car, printing raffle tickets, students and families selling at area churches and businesses, coordinating volunteers, advertising, sponsorships, curating auction items, the creation of class projects, writing and printing the auction book, setting up the record keeping program, registering vendors, organizing the children's play area, getting security on site, and so much more.
Whether you brought sweets, worked on a class project, helped set up or take down, sold BBQ tickets, drove the delivery truck, decorated the auditorium, bought and/or sold raffle tickets, worked the auction or a booth, watched students in the play area, or  bid on auction items, you were part of the 30 th  Anniversary year's success.  And, it was a success! Thank you for sharing your time, talent, and treasure with OLQP! Your efforts help keep tuition affordable while providing for programs that tuition alone cannot cover. This year, the Partners in Education focus was on technology. The students and teachers are very excited to have greater access to the tools needed for 21st  century learning. May God bless you abundantly for your generosity and continue to bless Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Principal

Saints Sports
Both OLQP volleyball and soccer teams are going to the play-offs.  On Monday, the volleyball team will be facing St. Ambrose on their home court. On Tuesday, the soccer team has the home field advantage. Come out at to support our Saints! The game starts at 4:30pm.

Red Ribbon Week
Next week is Red Ribbon Week. Student leaders have planned a theme for each day of the week to raise awareness for students to always choose a healthy life path. As parents, you can help. Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about staying drug free are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don't, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.  For more information about Red Ribbon Week activities, please click here.

If You are New to OLQP...
You might be wondering what the next big event is at OLQP. The next school wide event is All Saints Day on November 1st. At Our Lady Queen of Peace, we celebrate this great feast day with a parade of saints made up of our students and staff. Before the big day, talk to your student about which saint he/she would like to dress as. The costume can be as simple as wrapping a sheet into a toga or wearing a robe. Some costumes are elaborate. The "dressing" is not what really counts, though. It is the knowledge of what that person did to become a saint. Students arrive at school wearing their costumes. Most students wear their uniforms underneath or bring their uniforms to change into after Mass. At 9:30, classes are led by middle school students in a parade, weather permitting, from the front of the school and around the parking lot up to the front of the gym where they enter prepared for Mass.  The assembly joins in prayer and song until Mass starts at 10:00. The feast day is typically a Holy Day of Obligation. All are welcome.
