Principal's Message
October 7, 2016
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
The arts are alive and well at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School! During the STREAM water cycle project, the halls were filled with products that demonstrated creativity and talent. Each year, all classes participate in the Brazoria County Fair Art contest. There are pumpkins, scarecrows, cowboys, and more ready to go to the fairgrounds to be judged. Teachers and room parents are completing amazing projects for the Fall Festival. Each project is touched by the students in some way. The children are learning how to draw, paint, put together a mosaic, piece together and sew a quilt, and more. On Tuesday, we received a gift from the Clarion. The Pantomime Man visited the school and gave a theatrical performance based on pantomime. He engaged the children completely. He had them providing sound effects, modulating their voices, and practicing his art with him. The expressions on their faces were priceless.
One of the things that sets OLQP apart is that the Catholic Faith informs how we treat each other. Daily, at morning prayer, students hear about the lives of people who lived exemplary lives of Christian charity. The life of St. Therese of Lisieux has been the focus the last few days. The students have heard about her "child-like" trust in God. She is known for her "little way" of perfection. She did very small things with great love. Seeds of greatness are planted every day in the hearts of our students. When the occasion arises that teachers need to help students resolve conflicts, these lessons can be drawn upon. Students are challenged to think about how St. Therese or another saint might approach a problem. Habits of reflection and consideration of better ways to solve problems are being developed. In Catholic schools, it is teaching the whole child that is paramount. Working together with parents, the saints of tomorrow are being formed today. Thank you for being part of this mission and ministry.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.

Shining Stars:
Congratulations to Mrs. Donovan's 1st grade (winning class) and all students who participated in the Sumdog contest for Brazoria County.  In total, 288 students answered 86214 questions correctly. OLQP has won 30 subscriptions as the prize.  Now all classes from 1st to 8th will have premium subscriptions to play all games.  Kindergarten students can also play the free games.  Sumdog is a great website to practice math skills, and students are encouraged to play at home.
