THIS WILL BE OUR LAST LUNCHEON OF THE YEAR DUE TO THE THANKSGIVING & CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS
Sponsored by Hanson Professional Services
Navigation & Environmental Restoration Engineering
at the Applied River Engineering Center
Presented by: Jasen Brown, PE, PMP,
US Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District
Mr. Brown has been with the Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, since 2001. He has been a registered Professional Engineer since 2008, and he has over five years of project management experience. Mr. Brown's work at the Corps includes physical and numeric hydraulic modeling in support of the navigation and environmental missions assigned to the Corps by the United States Congress.
The St. Louis District Corps of Engineers has been involved with River Engineering for nearly 150 years. From early efforts to remove woody snags from the river channel to modern day efforts to design and build large stone river training structures, Corps engineers have been working to meet the challenge of safe and dependable navigation on the Mississippi River. The Applied River Engineering Center (AREC) at the St. Louis District Service Base has been providing unique expertise in support of the navigation and environmental river engineering efforts on the Mississippi River since 1994. Since AREC was established, engineers working there, in coordination with other Corps resources, have utilized physical Hydraulic Sediment Response (HSR) models to design river training structures to more effectively utilize the river's energy to maintain navigation channel dimensions. More recently, AREC engineers have employed numeric modeling tools in an effort to build on their ability to solve river engineering problems. These numeric modeling tools include HEC-RAS 1D, HEC-RAS 2D, and ADH 2D. As river engineering needs evolve and the tools available to address those needs continue to be developed, AREC engineers will work to meet those challenges in the most economically viable and environmentally sustainable ways possible.
The Club's goal is to bring together people from all segments of the river industry to talk about issues and ideas important to our industry. The St. Louis River Industry Club offers an opportunity to socialize with shippers, cargo handlers, carriers, legislators and advocacy groups, as well as representatives of the US Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers.
