From Mr. Robinson

Dear Boulevard Families,

As three evening events capped our sixth week of learning, I commend you for your  ongoing engagement with and support of our schools. In this busy and fast-paced  world, I find it a true testament of your commitment that many of you came out on  multiple nights.

First, on Tuesday, more than 30 of you attended our premiere Library Night at the  Shaker Heights Main Library. The event proved to be a huge success, as staff toured  families through the many available resources, including evening ESL classes, and  assisted them in getting library cards to access those resources. My sincere  appreciation to Mrs. Jill Lasheen and Mrs. Angela Bailey for organizing and  facilitating this wonderful event!

Thank you also to the many families who were able to participate in Wednesday’s
Kindergarten Curriculum Night! The evening allowed parents the opportunity to get
into their kindergartner’s classroom, spend time with the teacher, learn about the
curriculum and see first hand the kinds of fun and engaging activities that promote
the Shaker Experience for some of our youngest learners. I would also like to
express my appreciation to Boulevard’s Special K Team - Ms. Angela Anderson, Mrs.
Denice Benton, Mrs. Teri Cone, Mrs. Kelly Kunchik, Mrs. Elizabeth Shaw and Ms.
Christine Varricchio - for their hard work in preparing for this educational evening!

And, finally, thank you to the families and staff who were able to attend Thursday’s
informative Master Plan Community Meeting at the Middle School. Participants
were able to learn more about and discuss the plan to replace the Middle School and
provide needed capital improvement projects to the other seven buildings, including
Boulevard.

In closing, please remember there will be no school on Monday, October 3 in honor
of our many families who celebrate the Jewish New Year. For those who do observe
it, Happy Rosh Hashanah!

Sincerely,
Neal Robinson

Pennies for Peace

Dear Families,

Last year, the Kindergarten Team took action with our "Pennies for Peace" project. We raised enough money to purchase animals to help 22 families through Heifer International.  This organization seeks to change communities one animal at a time in the fight against poverty and hunger.

It is almost time for the families who received our chicks to fulfill their promise to Pass on the Gift.

This means the first female offspring of the chicks will be given to another family in need. It's a trans-formative moment and a huge indicator of success, effectively doubling the impact of our original investment.

Thank you so much to all the Boulevard Families that donated to help make our "Pennies for Peace" action project a huge success.

We look forward to your help again this year, so get those pennies ready!

Sincerely,-
The Kindergarten Team

Tour Your School

The Shaker Heights City Schools will open their doors to the community on Monday, October 10, between 9:30AM- noon and 1:00-2:30PM for Tour Your Schools Day. This day provides an opportunity for you to visit and learn more about any or all of our wonderful schools, teachers and staff "in action." Volunteers, students, and staff members will be available to show you around and answer questions. Principals have set aside special times to meet with you (K-4 schools: 10:30AM, Woodbury: 9:30AM, Middle School: 1:00PM, High School: 1:00PM). Please consider visiting one or more of our schools on this special day.

October is Socktober

Boulevard is once again participating in  Socktober , a new  sock  drive for the homeless started by Kid President.  Bring in new socks for men, women, and children now through October 31. We will donate them to a local homeless organization.

Help us beat last year's total as we strive for a goal of 700 new pairs of socks this year. Last year we donated 633 pairs! Bring your donation to the box outside the office, or send them to school with your child.

To learn more, go to http://soulpancake.com/socktober/. If you have any questions, contact Barbara Brown.

Thank You - Library Night at
Shaker Main Library

Thank you to all of the parents and families who made Library Night with Mrs. Lasheen and International families a success. Also thanks to Ms. Angela Bailey for her part in making this event happen. A special shout-out to the librarians at Shaker Library who prepared for our visit and  toured our International families to see all of the wonderful resources at the library. Also, a big thank you goes to Carolyn Steiner and her volunteers working at the library's ESL class which welcomed us with open arms and treats! PTO: thank you for providing funds for a special gift for each child who attended; all young patrons received a book to keep!  It was a fun night for all.
