Principal's Message
August 26, 2016
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
The school year is off to a great start! The halls are alive with learning. Students (and parents) are becoming acclimated to the routine.  The Catholic school philosophy of education is based on recognizing parents as the primary educators of their children. Because we work with parents in a partnership, Catholic schools can accomplish great things. As the transition is made from summer break to fall semester, some things parents can do to support teachers and the process of education are:
Establish routines whereby students have their uniforms ready and put their books, homework, signed papers, etc. in the same place each evening before bedtime to ensure a smooth exit in the morning.
Ensure healthy sleep habits by ending "screen time" an hour or two before the scheduled bedtime. Observe what is best for your child and adjust accordingly.
If your child has a cell phone, make sure you know where it is at night. Check the history to ensure that there are not late night texts and such that would interrupt sleep. (Middle school parents must be vigilant! Check under their pillows!)
Provide a healthy breakfast that is low in sugar and includes protein. Also, hydration is extremely important. Students may bring water bottles to school. They have access to water fountains and are able to re-fill them.
Provide balance in your family schedule: a time for homework, physical activity, recreation, socializing, and family prayer.
Maintain open communication with faculty and administration. Email correspondence is efficient. If you have a need that is time sensitive, please let the receptionist know because teachers may not check their email until the end of the school day depending on the schedule and commitments for the day.
The faculty and staff of OLQP are whole-heartedly committed to serve your children and your family as we work together to help students on their journey to become the people God has created them to be. We are working and praying every day for God's grace to live the mission and ministry of this very special school:

Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School exists to fulfill the educational ministry  of the Catholic Church and to provide an all encompassing  Spiritual, Academic, Cultural, and Physical-quality elementary education  for the

To all who are answering the "Sign Up Genius" calls to service!
For all the families who are sharing the "good news" about OLQP to their friends, co-workers, and neighbors.

Car Tags!
Please display your car tag in your car when driving in car line. This practice helps make the process more safer and more efficient. If you need a new tag, please contact Kim Wilson at [email protected]. Thank you!

Uniforms All Look Alike!
Imagine coming into Marian Hall the morning after a volleyball game. There is a pile of identical, navy blue jackets, that cannot be returned to the proper owner because there are no names to be found.. What a dilemma! You can help staff ensure that your investment in uniform clothing is not lost by putting your child's name in each and every piece of outer wear. Students who participate in sports should have their names written on all articles of uniform clothing.

More Uniform News
The racks of gently used uniforms are still heavily laden in Hawthorne Hall. Please feel free to "shop." Storage is limited, and we would like to see the clothes being used. Sign in at the front desk and then "shop" at your convenience.
News You Can Use....
When is Recess?
FYI...Lower elementary has recess scheduled every day. Since it has rained practically every day, inside recess is an option that is being used as needed. At OLQP, we value and understand the current research that supports children's need to play. After all, that's what we grew up with! Please understand that sometimes recess has to happen inside. The children are still getting a break, but it feels different from outside play. Some of the inside options include: eraser tag, "7 up," and center play.

Board of Trustees News
The OLQP Board of Trustees and Principal attended a workshop facilitated by Msgr. Bill Young, the pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Parish and School in the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston. He brought decades of experience and wisdom to the presentation. He also celebrated Mass with the attendees.
